Purpose of the Job
* Responsible for quality and process troubleshooting, optimization identification and implementation utilizing advanced process automation control technology and techniques to ensure OEE is maximized and accomplish site objectives in the most safe, economical and technically feasible methods.
* Continually monitor and modify departmental goals to insure compatibility with corporate goals and objectives.
Principal Responsibilities
* Insure that all activities are performed in a safe manner. Support and adhere to the principles of the American Chemistry Council's Responsible Care, and OSHA VPP by protecting the environment, health, safety and security of our employees, contractors, carriers, distributors, visitors, customers and neighbors.
* Review, monitor, develop, modify and maintain manufacturing processes and their control systems to maximize contribution to profitability.
* Provide an example of leadership that is consistent with the common objectives and values throughout the organization.
* Provide an atmosphere that allows each individual in the department and the department itself to grow and develop as needs and opportunities change.
* Establish and maintain a communication system that ensures employees are aware of business objectives and conditions and allows each team member to know what is needed from others - and make sure that others know what is expected of them.
* Establish the performance standards for the manufacturing process and the control systems which control them utilizing KPI's, develop the method of measurement utilizing OSI PI and provide timely and routine feedback to those responsible for the performance.
* Ensure that ongoing proficiency training is conducted to improve skills and to keep current with technology. Ensure that adequate funding and staffing are requested to meet operational requirements.
* Troubleshoot system and process problems in collaboration with other production engineers, process engineers and others to ensure that all aspects of the manufacturing process, process control system and equipment operation are managed effectively.
* Provide support to area manager to ensure all ISO, PSM and other regulatory, external and internal, requirements are met.

Work environment
* Identify opportunities to improve all aspects of manufacturing processes and their control systems, ensure appropriate allocation of approved resources.
Business environment
* Must increase operational effectiveness when essential resources are limited, delayed or denied.
Internal end external relationships
* Inside: Other departments routinely e.g., Production, Purchasing, Human Resources, Accounting, Purchasing, Maintenance and Project Engineering.
* Outside: Consultants for training, control systems; contractors for maintenance services.
Knowledge and Experience
* Bachelors degree required. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education
* Working knowledge within chemical processes both batch and continuous operations
* Advanced experience with process automation systems (i.e.programming, developing and maintaining) the software of such systems: working to policies and procedures: industrial and personnel administration; labor relations.
* 5 to 10 years technical experience in the Chemical industry and strong exposure to batch operations and automation systems.
* The candidate will have demonstrated success in positions of increasing managerial responsibilities, understanding and applying process improvement techniques.
