The Global Product Manager is responsible for the global performance of the Boron Chemicals product portfolio produced in Evans City including strategic marketing and product management aspects of the business. The main marketplace for Boron Chemicals is the Pharmaceutical Industry and BASF is the market leader in this particular area.
The specific responsibilities include:
* Development and implementation of global business strategies and marketing plans for Boron Chemicals including portfolio development, pricing policies, market communication. Gathering market intelligence on customers, competitors, markets, and competing technologies.
* Definition of product and business development needs and lead introduction of new borane products through input to R&D planning process as well as being a critical member of the innovation chain management team.
* Optimize the value based pricing approach for Boron Chemicals and provide appropriate pricing guidelines to the global sales force.
* Update and maintain communication strategy to further increase market awareness of Boron-based technologies.
* Monthly forecast the business on a global basis and give according guidance to Business Management, Controlling and Production Planning teams.
* Budget and operational planning agreements
The Global Product Manager reports to the Global Business Manager and determines annual target agreements with the regional sales managers in Nafta, Europe and Asia.
The management of the Boron Chemicals business entails a very high complexity by BASF standards in terms of product portfolio, hazardous nature of products, customer base, competitive landscape and business models. The market is a fast-paced, dynamic market that requires quick response times and decisive actions with a high amount of uncertainty requiring the Global Product Manager to work closely with R&D and Supply Chain Management. The nature of the Boranes business means the incumbent has a high degree of visibility, impact, and opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of business management.
Besides marketing & sales expertise the function requires a high degree of technical qualification (chemical engineer/chemist) and critical thinking. The management of the global business team in association with business leadership in Europe and Asia requires the Global Product Manager to have pronounced communication and leadership qualities and strong intercultural understanding is essential.

BS in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
* Min. 8 years industry experience of which 3 years experience should be in Marketing, Sales or Product Management including significant knowledge of business processes and IT systems.
* Solid understanding of supply chain principles and systems
* Demonstrated strong analytical, strategic, organizational and communication skills
* Demonstrated ability to analyze and utilize business and market information from a variety of sources
* Ability to communicate effectively with the technical/engineering community
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and work effectively in an international team environment
* Previous experience coordinating the implementation of short-term strategies and tactics through the efforts of functions such as sales, manufacturing, logistics, materials management, purchasing, research, technical service, credit, finance, and advertising.
* Previous experience/participation on a team which successfully introduced a new product.
* Previous experience in developing the marketing expertise justifying a strategic alliance/acquisition, new plant or major capital project.
* Previous experience performing detailed product/market analysis by preparing and implementing a product/marketing plan.
* Previous experience monitoring results and identifying/recommending/implementing corrective action.
* Excellent computer skills
* Previous experience developing both short-term strategies for specific products and/or product lines and/or assisting in developing the corresponding long-term strategies.
