The Facilities Technician will be part of the Facilities team and will be based in Charlotte, NC, and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

The Dispersions & Resins business of BASF develops, produces and markets a range of high-quality resins, additives, colorants and polymer dispersions worldwide. Reporting to the Facilities Group Leader the technician will:

  1. Manage incoming deliveries including samples, mail, equipment and supplies.

  2. Manage packing and shipping of all domestic samples and equipment.

  3. Maintain the Preventive Maintenance for Administration and Lab buildings.

  4. Troubleshoot and repair auxiliary, lab and building equipment at the sites.

  5. Maintain supplies and stock items needed for the sites.

  6. Keep all lighting and ballasts changed (as needed) at the Westinghouse site.

  7. Maintain a log book for all incoming and outgoing samples, equipment and mail items.

  8. Procure maintenance and general shop parts / supplies.

  9. Operate forklifts and provide fork lift fleet management, including oversight of PM’s and maintenance.

  10. Manage outside contractor support, including scheduling, onsite support and safety orientation.

  11. Performs minor electrical maintenance to include but not be limited to replacement or repair of fixtures (e.g. wall switches and outlets, incandescent and fluorescent bulbs and tubes, ballast, sockets, fuses, minor appliances, cords, etc.) using appropriate hand, power and specialty tools.

  12. Performs minor plumbing maintenance (e.g. replacement or repair of leaks in drains and faucets, unclogging of drains, trenching and laying new lines, replacing drain hoses on washers and similar devices, etc.).

  13. Performs minor painting, carpentry and masonry work (e.g. preparing surfaces and using brush, sprayer, or roller to apply paints, stains, and varnishes, hanging doors, fitting locks and handles, etc.).

  14. Maintain housekeeping standards in the work area.

  15. Execute facilities maintenance and equipment shutdowns.

  16. Inspect buildings and other structures to determine functional systems and detect malfunctions and needed repairs, making notes and recommendations using a pre established check sheet.

  17. Rearrange and clean rooms, hallways, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, stairways, parking lots, and other work areas as needed.

  18. Reconfigures, installs, positions, and remounts modular offices and space (e.g. furniture, wall panels, pictures, posters, work surfaces, storage bins, lighting, file cabinets, etc.) to accommodate user needs and maximize office space using various hand,

power and specialty tools, dollies, and hand trucks.

  1. Follow BASF’s safety rules and promote their observance in performance of job duties.

  2. Maintain a professional appearance in an office environment.

  3. Manage Facilities Requests submitted from the sites.

  4. Performs other work related duties as assigned.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent


  1. Incumbent must have five years or more of maintenance experience, preferably skilled in working with hand tools and troubleshooting problems with various equipment and machinery.

  2. Incumbent must be able to perform routine building maintenance tasks. Performance of building maintenance tasks in one or more fields (e.g. carpentry; electrical; heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC); plumbing, etc.); Perform general cleaning. Perform other tasks as assigned.

  3. Incumbent must have experience in repairing/replacing all types of piping listed (PVC, Copper, Stainless, Carbon, Galvanized and CPVC).

  4. Incumbent should be able to work from ladders, in elevated places or in pits when required.

  5. Incumbent must have millwright skills and motor repair skills.

  6. Incumbent should have woodworking skills and be experienced in using all types of saws.

  7. Incumbent should have basic mechanical and electrical skills.

  8. Incumbent must have basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills, able to use instruments listed (Multi-meter, Laser Alignment Tool, Tensioner, and Pyrometer)

  9. Incumbent should be able to work from drawings, verbal instructions or sketches

  10. Incumbent must possess computer skills (Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint) and operate in a team-based environment.

  11. This position requires twelve years general education (HS Diploma) or equivalent. Two years technical school training in industrial maintenance preferred.
