The Technical Application Laboratory Chemist will be part of the Construction & Fiber Bonding team and will be based in Charlotte, NC and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

As the Technical Application Laboratory Chemist, you will complete hands-on application work on technical service projects for existing products and new products entering the commercialization phase to support growth with our customers. In addition, you will coordinate lab work with Application Laboratory Technicians, may take general direction/collaboration with Technical Specialists, and will be responsible for equipment, SOP/JSA, and writing reports. You will be a part of the Construction & Fiber Bonding Application Laboratory team reporting directly to the Technical Team Leader.

Formulafor Success: You Will…

  • Conductingtechnical comparison of BASF products vs. competitive products inindustry-specific application tests (proactive to determine valueproposition and reactive in case of customer request) and provides otherswith respective results/analyses/path forward.

  • Completingtechnical application tests of products for troubleshooting to deriveproduct recommendations and/or formulation recommendations by usingmultiple product lines of the portfolio and for support of growthopportunities and recommendation of next steps.

  • Workingwith project teams to develop waterbased starting point formulations fornew/existing product portfolio.

  • Newmethod development and troubleshooting existing methods.

  • Complaintmanagement (production &/or customer): Performing technical testingand assessment of individual products via application testing and otheranalysis, providing others with respective results/analyses andrecommendation of next steps.

  • OrganizingR&D application testing, results, data of new product evaluation,formulation support and recommendation of next steps especially forproducts entering commercialization phase.

  • Ensuringand working in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards [minimumexpectation].

  • Maintenanceof laboratory and laboratory equipment in compliance with 6S and ISO,knowledge of test methods and writing respective SOP/JSA.

  • Workingcross functionally with R&D, marketing and sales departments.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or materialscience (or similar field) 2 years’ industrial experience OR Master's degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field)

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience formulation and application of waterbased binders and related technology

  • Strong laboratory skills and ability to work onmultiple tasks and projects

  • Experience designing and directing laboratoryexperiments, interpreting results, designing of follow-up experiments, andtraining of others

  • Good verbal and written communication skills,reporting of results in presentation as well as documentation (laboratoryreports)

  • Work effectively in a team environment underminimum supervision, as well as when directing others (technicians)

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or material science (or similar field) 5 years’ industrial experience OR Master's degree 3 years’ industrial experience

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience formulation and application of waterbased binders and related technology
