This is where you come in.

This Lab Tech position is responsible for quality assurance testing of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products for the BASF Corp. High Solids SB Dispersions Plant in Chattanooga, TN. The incumbent will conduct analytical testing on finished latex in support of a 24/7 ISO 9001 manufacturing operation. Evaluation of data is based on internal and external specifications. The incumbent will evaluate products and interact with the Production Team to expedite shipment to customers utilizing SAP.

The key tests include the safe, accurate and timely measurement of viscosity, solids content, pH, particle size, surface tension, coagulum as well as excellent analytical skills involving titrations, FTIR, refractive index, and gas chromatography. A developed proficiency in workflow management and prioritization is necessary to support the speed of production.

Lab Technicians will work on a 12-hour rotating shift with 24/7 coverage.


A high school diploma or GEDA minimum of 3 years laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment - ISO certification is preferred

A minimum of 3 years laboratory experience in a manufacturing environment - ISO certification is preferred

Ability to operate various controlled instruments in addition to familiarity with personal computers (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel)

Well developed analytical methodology and an insight into problem solving.

Detail oriented with the ability to record (via notebook or computer) and report pertinent data.

Organizational skills

Must be able to achieve a passing score on a pre-placement aptitude test.

On occasion, must be able lift up to a maximum of 49 lbs.

Must be able to follow both written and verbal instructions

Must he able to follow all applicable safety procedures including usage of correct personal protective equipment.

Must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment and interact with management and employees within the organization

Ability to work rotating shifts and overtime when required

Good communication skills (oral and written)

Must perform some production duties including surfactant chemical make-up

Must perform some shipping and receiving duties including movement and filling of tank trucks and raw material unloading

Preferred:Minimum 2-year associates degree in Chemistry or 2 year technical degree in analytical testing in Chemistry or related field, plus:
