Where the Chemistry Happens…
Business Director of the Diols & Derivatives business within the Intermediates Division is responsible for largest SBU within the business, a $500 M business which generates 40% of Intermediates sales in North America. The role includes direct leadership of a team of three product managers, one marketing manager, as well as one business development manager (indirectly) to ensure the successful execution of business unit strategies and innovation targets. The Business Director provides the business plan for the management of our "Verbund-based" BDO and derivative products produced in Geismar, LA such as acetylene, BDO and derivative production units going to export, internal divisions and 3rd Party customers in NA providing for our market leading position in our industry.

Manage the business from a stringent financial perspective ensuring the it earns a premium on the cost of capital.
Provide leadership and direction of the Diols product management and marketing team including identification and development of new talent.
Coach, develop and manage talent development strategy for the business and contribute to the CI talent management effort.
Develop and implement regional specific strategies for Diols & Derivatives in NA.
Prepare, negotiating and agree regional key performance metrics including financial budgets.
Provide guidance and negotiation strategies for the sales force by sharing competitive knowledge to ensure strategic principles are being followed and margins are acceptable.
Understand both regional and global market structure’s economics, growth, trends, opportunities, value chain, customers and competitive environment.
Develop and implementing regional programs, projects, or initiatives to improve profitability, ensure product stewardship and compliance, as well as manage agency reporting relationships such as ICIS and ACC sub-teams.
Identify targets to expand product range or business (collaborations, acquisitions) and participate in assessment to determine fit.
Define and leads the management of relations with key business partners (Industry players, JV partners, suppliers, co-producers and customers).
Drive productivity initiatives for the value chain via production, supply chain and other cost areas.
Maximize value of by-products of production of the value chain by developing alternate use or higher value outlets with minimal associated capital or supply chain costs.
Work closely with the global and regional marketing teams as well as BDO and derivatives production units to prioritize key activities, productivity initiatives and areas of focus.
Build strong relationships with global key accounts that are based within the region.
Ensure that regional specificities and interests are well represented in the global SBU teams; including Sales and Operation Planning (S&OP), Global SBU business meetings, Global Strategy

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Ingredients for success. What we look for in you….
Bachelor’s degree required; Degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry preferred
Minimum 10 years of marketing, sales and/or product management experience in a strong industrial environment required
Experience directly managing others required
Strong business and financial acumen as well as analytical skills
Experience in negotiating and managing complex business contracts and multiyear agreements in an international environment
Demonstrated ability to develop and implement strategies to drive profitable growth
Proven leadership and teamwork qualities
Ability to manage multiple tasks and large projects simultaneously
Ability to work effectively in an international diverse team environment
Communication skills, including negotiating, presentations, influencing & relationship building
Ability to work and interact in a cross-cultural environment
Experience in managing large commodity products or value chains with a high degree of integration and complexity desirable
Strong leadership and people management competency and experience
Clear understanding of BASF systems and processes a plus
