We are seeking a Business Manager, Standard Surfactant Products (SSP), to join our Care Chemical division.

The BASF division of Care Chemicals offers a broad range of ingredients for hygiene, personal care, home care, industrial & institutional cleaning, and technical applications. We are the leading supplier for the cosmetics industry as well as the detergents and cleaning agents industry and support our customers worldwide with innovative and sustainable products, solutions, and concepts. The division’s high-performance product portfolio includes surfactants, emulsifiers, polymers, emollients, chelating agents, cosmetic active ingredients, pigments, and UV filters. Superabsorbents developed for the full spectrum of hygiene applications complete the range. We have production and development sites in all regions and are expanding our presence in emerging markets.

Business Manager, Standard Surfactants (1700244)

As the Business Manager, Standard Surfactant Products (SSP), based at the North America BASF headquarters in Florham Park, New Jersey, you will report to the Director of Product Management, Care Chemicals and will have end-to-end responsibility for the business for standard surfactants products in North America, including the sales process (strategic bid management). To foster a high performing organization, you will coach staff as appropriate and support capability development.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Own end-to-end responsibility for the business for standard surfactants products in North America including the sales process (strategic bid management)

  • Lead a team of product managers and account managers focused on standard surfactants products (e.g. fatty alcohols, primary surfactants and co-surfactants)

  • Implement a lean and reliable business model to serve the commodity product lines

  • Prepare, support and agree on regional key performance metrics including budgeting for North American SSP business

  • Manage financial forecasting, reporting and strategic controlling

  • Support and implement product line and asset strategies

  • Drive cost improvement and standardization for standard surfactants products to run the business as lean and reliable as possible

  • Identify need for capex & provides guidance for investment projects

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in Chemistry, Engineering or Business Management; MBA is strongly preferred.

  • Minimum 6 years of industry experience preferably in a combination of marketing, product management, sales and/or technical service roles

  • Experience directly managing others required

  • Leads by example and sets environment for taking risks within the organization by addressing constraints and enabling resources.

  • Individual must possess very strong business acumen, problem solving capability, initiative, strong work ethic, and goal oriented, and able to effectively influence others both directly and indirectly. Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) required.

  • Demonstrated experience in financial and operational analysis is a necessity.

  • Experience in strategy development and implementation required.

  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams within a global matrix organization
