Where the Chemistry Happens…
The attorney in this position will serve as Counsel to the Company reporting to the Associate General Counsel for Product & Trade Regulation. The Product & Trade Regulation group provides legal advice to BASF’s business and functions on the federal and state laws and regulations concerning BASF products, such as those governing chemicals, pesticides, foods & drugs. The group also provides advice concerning laws and regulations governing international movement of goods and technology, such as customs and export control laws. The position will work closely with the Associate General Counsel for Product and Trade Regulation, business units, functional units and other members of the legal department, providing advice and guidance on product and trade regulatory issues.
Formula for Success: You Will…
Provide advice on compliance with legal requirements governing the company’s portfolio of chemical, pesticide, biotechnology, food & drug and/or other products, including new product approvals, confidentiality and data compensation claims, and investigation and voluntary disclosure of potential regulatory deviations.
Provide advice on compliance with current and anticipated trade embargo and sanctions regulations, as well as export licensing requirements, to evaluate impact on company operations and ability to proceed with proposed transactions.
Work with in-house customs experts and outside counsel to address customs audits, investigations, and litigations in a manner that protects and advances company interests.
Review and comment on trade and product regulatory provisions in transactions documents, including stock and asset purchase and sale agreements, confidentiality agreements, and material transfer agreements.
Train functional and business unit personnel with respect to trade and regulatory compliance issues.
Develop a thorough understanding of and familiarity with the company's businesses, people, products, markets, facilities, customers, and competitors, in order to identify trends and formulate strategies accordingly.
Perform special assignments or projects as determined by Legal Department management

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
Juris Doctorate degree; license to practice within the U.S. is required
Admission to the bar of at least one state
8 years of legal experience focused on product regulation and/or trade compliance matters
A high level of intelligence combined with strong and effective written and oral communications skills, outstanding analytical abilities, and sound reasoning and judgment
The ability to both identify problems and present positive, creative alternatives and solutions
Highly developed organizational skills.
