Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Fleet Asset Specialist manages the company owned and leased railcar fleet, including fleet-size modeling and cross-fleet utilization, maintenance and mechanical conversions, oversight of on-hire, off-hire, and cross fleet transfer activities, troubleshooting, and budget/cost performance oversight. The Fleet Asset Specialist will provide premium customer service to BASF sites and business units by acting as the rail fleet liaison, and is responsible for continuous improvement and performance optimization.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Develop an overall fleet management strategy, including short- and long-term outlooks for fleet count and performance, maintenance concerns, railcar life cycle planning, and KPI development/oversight and trend analysis.

  • Perform cost oversight Including spend optimization, budget performance measurement, and forecast activity at the business unit level, as well as for the complete North American rail fleet.

  • Work with business unit and site partners to investigate and resolve rail-related issues to ensure customer needs are met.

  • Be responsible for fleet-size modeling and optimization, including dwell minimization and cross-fleet utilization, to ensure the rail fleet is sized properly against forecasted demand.

  • Manage on-hire/ off-hire execution by executing all required duties to direct the movement of railcars across different fleets, and to/from lessors, including oversight of the physical movement of equipment to/from loading sites/shops, inspections, and repairs.

  • Collaborate with others to ensure the continuous optimization of repair operations, the repair shop network, and underlying mechanical specifications.

  • Participate in leasing company negotiations.

  • Understand the impact of federal regulatory changes, and take a leading role in operational issues.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree required with at least 6 years of Supply Chain experience.

  • Rail operations or fleet management experience preferred (e.g., rail fleet management, rail car leasing, maintenance, fleet size modelling, regulatory oversight).

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

  • Must be highly organized with a strong attention to detail/documentation, and excellent project management skills. Lean Six Sigma background is a plus.

  • Incumbent is expected to work with minimal direction.
