Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are currently seeking a Senior Finance Analyst will provide financial analysis and decision support to the North American Region. BASF North America is the North American subsidiary of BASF, the world's largest chemical company. BASF North American operations include all types of industrial, personal care, and agricultural chemicals, as well as, plastics and coatings. Total North American sales are in excess of $20B and the company employs over 17,000 associates across the continent.

The Senior Finance Analyst will analyze data, identify and interpret trends and form recommendations for value-added actions to enhance growth and profitability of the region. You will present findings to senior leaders from the regional controllers group, the Vice President of Controlling, and Executive team members, as appropriate.

Senior Financial Analyst (1700190)

You have a unique opportunity to gain exposure to senior management, operational business units and functional leads throughout North America. You will build effective working relationships with Regional Business Units and functional controllers. You will have a combination of strong internal and external relationships from both the operational and functional organization, requiring you to develop referral sources and gain insight into business objectives and market developments. You will need to think creatively and work in a team environment. A demonstrated ability to source data from Global Business Warehouse (GBW) or Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) along with the relevant financial applications (Front End) to ensure that efforts are directed to value add financial analyst, is essential.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Analyze monthly actual, forecasted, and budgeted financial results for the region.

  • Analyze and interpret order trends and backlog development.

  • Support key regional and global initiatives, including but not limited to, corporate projects and the NA Scorecard.

  • Analyze competitors' financial results and benchmarking against internal performance.

  • Manage economic reporting, analysis, and interpretation for the US and North American region.

  • Analyze critical commodities including engaging specialists to further interpret forecast and its implications to the region and overall influence on company performance.

  • Support month-end reporting including the preparation of monthly financial reports, financial forecasting and planning process for North America.

  • Collect necessary data and support to prepare analysis both monthly and forward looking projections.

  • Analyze and understanding of both legal entity and consolidated business steering financials with a focus on product profitability and margin development.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; a degree in Finance, Accounting or Economics with strong Information Technology acumen or relevant work experience highly preferred. MBA a plus

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in financial analysis & reporting with a background in industrial and capital analysis.

  • Demonstrated strong financial acumen and/or exposure to the following Financial Applications and its various sources: Business Warehouse (BW), Applications (i.e. SAP - COPA, General Ledger, Cost Center, OCEAN (Sales/P&L), SCI (Working Capital), Market Profit and COBUS (Management steering)

  • Excellent computer skills (e.g. Microsoft suite, SQL, Tableau) with the ability to work with programmersand facilitate logic/design of future reporting while maintaining interfaces as necessary

  • Ability to work with and influence others to achieve success while articulating team objectives.

  • Bilingual in German is a plus but not preferred

  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally (less than 5%)
