Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Transportation Safety Support Specialist to classify all imported and exported goods with appropriate customs tariff numbers (HTS numbers) in SAP according to the requirements of U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS), U.S. State Department, and U.S. Other Government Agencies responsible for international trade while following the standards and procedures of BASF to harmonized customs classification within BASF group.

Transportation Safety Support Specialist (1700127)

You will review and enter data on daily queues in SAP for all areas that pertain to Customs for global businesses to include North America and Canada. You will work with the BASF external service providers to ensure that all of the required information is available for classification and for customs clearance. You will coordinate and collaborate with global center of expertise on Customs Classification (GUP/CM, in 2017 FEP/CM) and staff of Customs and Foreign Trade Operations (GSO/GF, in 2017 FSO/GF) to ensure that HTS numbers to all items that appear in SAP on a daily basis are assigned correctly.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Conduct research both internally and externally to ensure that correct HTS numbers are assigned to all BASF products.

  • Work with BASF business units to obtain required data to establish accurate classifications

  • Cooperate with national experts on customs classification in BASF group global.

  • Review all HTS numbers that have been assigned to BASF products to ensure accuracy and make corrections as required to ensure compliance with government requirements.

  • Maintain database and run reports as needed on HTS and other regulatory data assigned to BASF products.

  • Other compliance-related tasks related to customs classification.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science and/or equivalent work experience

  • Must have 2 years of regulatory and/or Supply Chain experience

  • Seeking candidates with very strong knowledge of U.S. Customs processes, procedures, regulations and tariff classification

  • Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements and U.S. export controls regime (BIS, OFAC and ITAR) a plus

  • Thorough knowledge of automated systems preferred (SAP, ABI, various internet websites)

  • Experience in dealing with U.S. Customs and other government regulatory agencies a plus

  • Excellent analytical and decision making skills; Detail-oriented with excellent time management skills; high ability to work in a team environment
