The Chemical Intermediates group offers a comprehensive portfolio of chemical processes and innovative specialties. With our finished products and chemical intermediates, we contribute to the success of our customers worldwide, both external and internal to BASF.
The Chemical Intermediates Group has an opportunity for a Technology Specialist in the Polyalcohols unit located at the BASF Verbund site in Freeport, TX. The Polyalcohols unit manufactures 1,6-Hexanediol, 1,5-Pentanediol, Caprolactone and Neopentyl Glycol – mainly diols which are used as an intermediate for a variety of polymeric systems such as polyesters, polyurethane elastomers, surface coatings, adhesives, and plasticizers. Our continuous processes offer the unique exposure to various chemical reaction systems and gas, liquids, and solids unit operations all within the same manufacturing department.
The primary role of this position will be to support the strategic production functions for the Freeport Polyalcohols manufacturing unit, including process optimization, capital projects, process safety, automation, technical expertise, and operations support. This position will be filled at a level commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the successful candidate.

Formula for Success: You Will…
Lead continuous technology innovation through identification, evaluation, development, prioritization, and implementation of process and plant modifications (performance and reliability improvements, troubleshooting, debottlenecking of equipment) yielding increased production or reduced fixed and variable costs.
Serve as a manufacturing representative of capital projects providing process and design input through project scope, justification, timing, and design and construction for capital projects. Develop and lead the commissioning and start-up of capital projects.
Coordinate, complete, and document PSSR, MOC reviews, and revalidations in collaboration with global technology and global safety groups to meet process safety and environmental requirements. Provide technical support for risk assessments on MOCs to ensure changes do not jeopardize safety of plant. Drive continuous process safety and environmental improvements.
Own, complete, and document PHA reviews and revalidations. Provide technical and leadership support in root cause failure analysis for EHS and plant upset incidents. Participate in maintaining the cluster Process Safety and Technology Information (e.g., P&IDs, PFDs, plant safety concepts, procedures, PSV documentation).
Provide expertise in the application of PIMS and drive automation to improve effectiveness of the production technology. Support alarm management and troubleshooting for DCS/SIS systems, including recommending control and interlock strategy development/implementation.
Support the Production Execution Team in the development of plant trials and continuous improvement techniques, in data collection and analysis, and by resolving production issues. Convey technology-specific information through second tier plant troubleshooting and technical training for the shift workers.
Collaborate with Chemical Intermediates Technology personnel on process optimization, troubleshooting, technical exchanges, and global safety concepts.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering, with 5 or more years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical or similar manufacturing environment.
Strong understanding of process engineering concepts and their applications.
Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and TCEQ standards and regulations.
Strong work management and computer skills (knowledge of advanced Excel functions preferred).
Proven ability to work with diverse teams and independently with a high level of quality.
Solid interpersonal and communication skills to interface with daily operations team, technical site services, business, and management groups.
This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
