BASF Lead Operator - Geismar System Hub in Geismar, Louisiana

This new BASF GSH (Geismar System Hub) is seeking safety conscious, dedicated, energetic, team oriented individuals to become part of a dynamic work environment contributing to a successful Polyurethane System business.
Successful candidates will be responsible for conducting the daily activities related to the batch manufacturing operations of a Polyurethane Systems facility. Operator responsibility and accountability includes, but is not limited to:
With minimal to no supervision, initiates the SAP to DCS (Distributed Control System) batch recipe following the production schedule
Monitors the critical Prepolymer reaction profile on the DCS to ensure no SIS (Safety Instrumented System) critical conditions are encountered that would initiate an SIS shutdown
Accurately and properly write Safety Work, Hot Work, Confined Space, Lock out Tag Out permits following BASF guidelines.
As a member of the “4-eyes review” team, ensure 100% compliance with high level Administrative Controls as required
Accurately build Polyurethanes resin and Isocyanate products following the batch recipes and prioritization of the daily Production Schedule
Direct the packaging of finished products from Resin blenders or Isocyanate Reactors into drums, totes or tank trucks using semi-automatic packaging systems meeting the production schedule
Be able to safely and efficiently perform all the duties required in all areas of the GSH including: Production, Tank Truck Handling, Shipping/Receiving docks and Tank Farm, during employee absences both scheduled and unscheduled
Actively participates in all aspects of Process Safety including AIM report investigations, MOC’s generation, PSSRs, Mechanical integrity reviews, SOP (Standard Operating Procedures) reviews and updates, Hazard analysis, etc
Initiate incidents in the “AIMS” system, participate in incident investigations and complete their assigned actions items in a timely manner.
Completes daily, weekly and monthly safety checklist printed from Documentum for areas of responsibility by accurately completing these checklists. Ensure Production Manager is made aware of any high-risk deficiencies noted on checklists
Interacts and communicates via phone/radio/person with lab technicians, instrument technicians, GSH operators, or TT and Dock Operators to troubleshoot problems
Trains new personnel on both the GSH and TT/Dock Operator’s duties as needed
Performs other job duties as workload dictates or assigned by Production Manager
A minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent. Or a two-year associate degree in a related technical area or equivalent applicable industrial experience is preferred
3-5 years of chemical plant or other industrial plant experience. Previous supervisory responsibility and/or training experiences are a plus
Operator must have acceptable communications and computer skills
Ability to perform mathematical calculations
Ability to operate a sit down fork truck, stand up reach truck and the switch tractor
Must possess the ability to learn and perform outlined duties.
Must have a good general knowledge of standard practices and safety rules of a chemical plant
Operators must be able to work in a team environment
Mechanical experience is a plus
BASF recognizes institutions of higher education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
