We have a great opportunity for a Senior Production Manager to join our Geismar, LA, team.

We are the leading supplier for the cosmetics industry as well as the detergents and cleaning agents industry and support our customers worldwide with innovative and sustainable products, solutions, and concepts. Senior Production Manager (1701316) – Geismar, LA

You will effectively lead the Geismar Surfactants unit through the creation and implementation of the vision, strategic, and tactical plans in alignment with the Care Chemicals business and site strategy, with a continuous focus on improving the operation. You will be responsible for: developing and executing all business-related capital improvement projects; making decisions and recommendations that have a value-added impact on manufacturing activities and performance; formulating manufacturing policies and programs which guide the organization in maintaining and improving its competitive position and the profitability of the operation.

You will also be responsible for the overall leadership, management, quality, safety, production effectiveness as well as all production and cGMP/QC related activities for the surfactants unit in Geismar. You will work to create an environment that supports the attraction, development, and retention of high quality human capital; and provide leadership to establish strategic goals, objectives, and operational budgets for the production and logistic teams to ensure continuous improvement.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Lead the day-to-day team performance and results, identifying and removing any barriers to the success of the production and logistics team.

  • Identify and implement work process changes, knowledge transfer requirements, cGMP regulatory compliance and methods to enable transitions required to support the surfactants unit.

  • Promote and role model responsible risk taking, interpersonal development, customer support, and continuous improvement cultures.Provide resources for implementation of continuous improvement tools and role model LEAN behaviors.

  • Build a high-performance team by coaching and developing personnel that exemplify the culture and behaviors targeted by BASF. This includes identifying training needs of the production and logistic teams and leveraging Learning and Development resources to provide necessary training opportunities.

  • Ensure the creation of long and short term budgets, objectives, and plans for the order fulfillment, product/process development and services at the site. Create and ensure the effective management review process are in place to achieve performance goals related to financial, operations, cGMP/quality, employee development, EHS and project management targets. Ensure full regulatory compliance for safety, environmental, cGMP/ISO, transportation, and commercial processes.

  • Ensure that effective systems of continuous improvement, corrective action, and preventive actions are in place. Establish the measures of success for the site and ensure that clear accountability is assigned for all key performance standards and objectives.

  • Ensures completion of Management review and other periodic reviews of compliance programs in communicating the corporate and business strategies to the operation units and developing the appropriate culture

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical field required with a BA in chemistry or engineering, preferred

  • Minimum 10 years of work experience in a manufacturing environment in an operations, maintenance, engineering and/or technical services function

  • Minimum of 5 years supervisory/leadership experience, required

  • Knowledge of EHS and Process Safety needed

  • Proven Supervisory and Leadership Skills and excellent communications and human relations skills are required

  • Demonstrated experience driving accountability and operational discipline to achieve occupational and process safety performance objectives in the unit

  • Demonstrated experience fostering the integration of a diversity of perspectives across the organization resulting in development of high performing teams and output

  • Demonstrated ability to involve, trust, and optimize a diverse, high performing team and create a vision that fosters a sense of common ownership

We also Look for…

  • MS degree, preferred

  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma methodologies preferred

  • Previous experience leading a plant optimization team is a plus
