Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Performance Materials Group has an opportunity for a Technology Engineer in the Polyol department located at the BASF Geismar, LA location.

Technology Engineer, Polyol (1700160)

You will support the strategic production functions for the Geismar Polyol Plant. You will be required to develop in-depth technical knowledge for areas of responsibility and will work co-located with Operations team. You will manage capital projects, process optimizations, automation, and management of PSM activities, especially around MOC, safety reviews, and process safety information. You will assist the Daily Operations Team (DOT) in technical troubleshooting.

  • Drive continuous improvement

  • Identify key operational change that positively impact operational cost and business needs.

  • Manage Capital Project Development and Execution

  • Act as Manufacturing Rep for Capital Projects supporting the efficient and timely execution of projects

  • Manage and maintain Process Safety programs

  • Drive continuous process safety improvement

  • Lead for Process Hazard Analysis

  • Maintain compliance and provide technical support for Process Safety programs and Process Safety Concepts

  • Lead Automation Development and Implementation

  • Scope development of automation strategy and control concepts

  • Provide second tier troubleshooting and technical support for the DCS controls and Safety Instrumented Functions

  • Provide second tier troubleshooting and technical support for the DCS automation and Safety Instrumented Functions

  • Provide Technology Expertise

  • Provide technical expertise to support for alkoxylation technologies, both continuous and batch processes.

  • Provide technical expertise for filtration and liquid-liquid separations.

  • Provide support for Global Technology Teams

  • Support the Daily Production Team with complicated chemistry and technical problems

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

  • Requires a BS degree in Engineering, preferably in Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 6 years of experience in chemical/petrochemical manufacturing

  • Experience with batch process automation is required; automation experience with Siemens DCS system is preferred

  • Experience in alkoxylation process technologies is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills are required to interface with Daily Operations Team (DOT), Daily Support Team (DST), Technical Engineering Services and Technology Support Teams (TST)

  • Strong technical skills to help troubleshoot problems in the different manufacturing areas

  • Project Manager or Manufacturing Representative experience on a project to improve process technology

  • Proven record of developing creative solutions to new problems or continuously improving systems and processes
