Where the Chemistry Happens…
This position is responsible for providing Project Cost Engineer expertise for the Regional Service Centers (RSC’s) in the areas of Cost Estimating, Project Budget and Cost Control. The position requires a strong ability to communicate effectively in teams. The function will operate with minimal supervision. You will serve as an assigned RSC’s cost estimator supporting capital projects and various cost analyses to BASF Business Units including Cost Control, trends and forecast during the execution. Areas of responsibility include executing small to medium complexity projects managed by the Regional Service Centers as well as support to technical development alternatives as needed. You will provide cost management services for small and highly complex projects when needed. Project scopes will be diverse, dealing with simultaneous projects located at multiple sites / locations.
You will be able to mentor and coach engineers, Project Managers and Engineering Partners in the timely and accurate preparation of information and cost estimates and cost control reports. Proper balance of the workload as well as appropriate distribution of the cost engineering activities will be also responsibility of this individual.

Formula for Success: You Will…
Development of conceptual and detailed cost estimates for capital projects and technical activities: study grade ( /- 50%) through appropriation grade ( /- 10%).
Perform bid analysis for service contracts, and provide estimates to validate supplier pricing and construction FCOs.
Evaluate and recommend alternatives developed during conceptual planning.
Assist in the development, evaluation and improvement of cost estimating and cost control tools and related processes.
Establish work breakdown structures and prepare cost reports
Travel is expected at 35%.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, a similar technical discipline or Construction Management with 7 or more years of degreed professional experience.
3 or more years of experience in cost estimating for capital projects, including conceptual cost estimating.
Familiarity with engineering, purchasing, accounting, and general construction practices with respect to cost estimating workflows.
Strong analytical, technical, and communication skills with ability to translate complex cost engineering terminology into understandable language for internal customers and business partners.
Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Knowledge of SAP maintenance and project systems and cost breakdown structure (CBS) a plus.
Working knowledge of Aspen is a plus
Prior project management experience combined with familiarity with the phase gated process for project execution is preferred.
Participation in continuing education (engineering disciplines and the construction field) and related professional organizations
Travel is expected at 35%.
