We are seeking a Global X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) Calibration Specialist to join our team located in Huntsville, Alabama and who will work with the BASF Catalysts Division CCE (Mobile Emissions Catalysts) Group, a global business primarily servicing the global automotive OEM marketplace.
Global X-Ray Fluorescence Calibration Specialist (1700902) – Huntsville, AL
Formula for Success: You Will…
Generate XRF calibrations for all products going to production for Huntsville along with other global sites. Effort will require the occasional development of sample plans, regular interfacing with local standards and global calibration generation groups, ability to run samples on XRF equipment and ability to utilize mathematical, statistical and theoretical knowledge as pertaining to the XRF to generate calibrations that then are used to monitor and ensure that the correct products get made and shipped to the customer.
Understand and adhere to the specific requirements pertaining to calibration validation as set forth by both BASF and the customer.
Manage the electronic transfer of calibrations to other BASF divisional global
Collaborate closely with XRF specialists in Poland, Germany, Brazil, South Africa, China, India and upon occasion with Japan and South Korea. Individual also is responsible for interfacing with XRF equipment manufacture service department to coordinate emergency repairs.
Work closely with Slurry Prep Engineering, Lot evaluation, Process Engineering, XRF technicians and the site Analytical Manager on a regular basis.
Communicates daily with the Analytical Service Manager to report findings and resolutions for XRF related issues. Individual is also in regular contact with calibration specialists from other global sites.
Troubleshoot on daily production deviations/issues that cannot be resolved by the XRF equipment operators.
Review calibrations for potential drift, overall validity and apply findings to resolve issues and release product to either production for coating or to QC for shipment.
Regularly discuss findings with Analytical Manager and upon occasion make needed modifications to existing calibrations with proper audit documentation.
Evaluate mechanically-based equipment failures and interface with the outside equipment manufacturer to resolve moderately complex issues and avoid equipment/production down time waiting for an emergency service visit from the equipment provider. Upon completion of any mechanical changes to the equipment, individual will then be expected to evaluate equipment performance to ensure that the calibrations are all performing as expected.
Evaluate overall site calibration performance relative to accounting variance tracking and investigate as needed through interactions with manufacturing, process engineering and outside 3 rd party laboratories. Calibrations used for the site are responsible for controlling and monitoring the usage of precious metals as well as base metal oxide additives as required for catalyst production.
Manage daily work focuses on the technological requirements behind the proper set up and validation of XRF calibrations for all of BASF divisional environmental catalyst manufacturing sites.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
Bachelor's Degree in a related scientific discipline (e.g. Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics) with 3 years related experience OR a Master's Degree with at 1 years related experience
Understanding of associated instrumentation required and the relationships to process, quality and control preferred
Understanding of mathematical principles behind multivariable curve fitting required.
Utilize design of experiments approach in defining sample requirements required utilized to support calibration processes preferred.
Solid technical expertise; attention to detail; organizational skills; financial acumen required
Professional with developed communication, interpersonal and influencing skills and the ability to interface with all levels of customers and internal management
Must be able and willing to travel of 5% of the time, both domestically and internationally
We Also Look for…
Hands on experience in X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) calibration preferred
Familiarity with XRF equipment (both theoretical and operational) preferred.
Previous experience with analytical methods and process improvement projects preferred
Strong understanding of catalyst processes and technologies is preferred
Familiarity with statistical software packages such as Super Q for use in generation of XRF equipment calibrations preferred.
Experience working on/leading cross-functional teams and improvement implementations preferred
