Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Senior Financial Analyst to join our team in Canada.

The BASF Canada Regional Controlling Group is a component of the Finance and Business Services Group at BASF Canada. The Group is responsible for local and regional management reporting and analysis of BASF Canada’s business performance as well as cost controlling activities. The team has close interaction with local country management, business controllers, functional leads as well as the North America Controlling Group.

Senior Financial Analyst (1700854)

You will report to the Manager of Regional Controlling at BASF Canada and have close interaction with other business services areas of the local organization. You will provide economic and financial analysis and decision support to BASF Canada Management and all stakeholders involved.

You will have primary responsibility for data analysis, identifying and interpreting trends, opportunities and forming recommendations in an effort to bring forward transparency and innovative solutions. Additionally, you will be proactively engage, collaborate and liaise with functional units, including presenting findings to local management as well as the stakeholders involved.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Analyze monthly actual, forecasted and budgeted financial results for BASF in Canada (market view).

  • Understand and report on economic developments, including changes and trends within the key business / market segments, i.e. construction, automotive, agricultural, as well as its potential impact on our businesses and customers.

  • Lead and/or support preparation of monthly financial reports (i.e. CA Express Report), including in-depth understanding of market and business performance as well as growth development of our key strategic customers.

  • Understand and analyze trends, changes, developments and its impact on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), i.e. Sales, cCM1, cGM, Fixed Cost.

  • Drive Customers First and Winning Together mindset through an in-depth analysis of POI (Perfect Order Index) metrics in an effort to strengthen customer experience across businesses in Canada.

  • Provide Cost Controlling analysis with an in-depth understanding and identification of key drivers (i.e. idle costs, selling, discretionary costs, corporate allocations, etc.).

  • Support of key local, regional and/or global initiatives and projects.

  • Lead and/or support annual preparation of Functional Budgets for all functional units in Canada.

  • Champion continuous improvement and simplification of existing processes as well as clarity and transparency of analysis offered to all stakeholders.

  • Build exposure to local country management, regional business units and functional leads within Canada as well as counterparts throughout North America.

  • Build relationships, an essential component and success of this role, gained through business partnering, close interaction and on-going dialogue.

  • Serve as a key advisor and a solution provider across businesses and functions in Canada.

  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Business, Finance, Accounting or Economics required. MBA preferred.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in Business, Finance and/or Economics. Manufacturing experience a plus.

  • Strong interpersonal skills will be required to gain insight into businesses’ objectives and market developments of all businesses in Canada.

  • Strong Entrepreneurial drive and leadership potential with ability to take on greater responsibility in future roles.

  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking, organizational awareness, influence management, communication skills and collaboration for achievement is critical.

  • Ability to foster relationships with both the business and functional units, including but not limited to local country management.

  • Proven ability to initiate, lead and execute process improvements.

  • Excellent PC skills and advanced Excel/PowerPoint required with working knowledge of global systems, i.e. SAP, GBW, OCEAN, COBUS, COINS.
