We are seeking a Process Metallurgist to join our team. The BASF Catalysts Division is the world’s leading supplier of environmental and process catalysts. The group offers exceptional expertise in the development of technologies that protect the air we breathe, produce the fuels that power our world and ensure efficient production of a wide variety of chemicals, plastics and other products, including advanced battery materials. By leveraging our industry-leading R&D platforms, passion for innovation and deep knowledge of precious and base metals, BASF’s Catalysts division develops unique, proprietary solutions that drive customer success.
Process Metallurgist is responsible for the optimization and develop of pyrometallurgical (pyromet) processes (Electric Arc Furnace, Top Blown Rotatory Converter, and Induction furnace unit operations). Candidate will support daily operations providing troubleshooting, production quality, and process safety.

Formula for Success: You Will…
Develop and implement Process Safety Concept for each pyromet unit operation.
Develop and implement improved precious metal recovery processes in each pyrometal unit operation.
Optimize cycle time and equipment reliability.
Scope development and manufacturing ownership for capital investments in the pyromet area.
Optimize of slag and alloy rheology/chemistry.
Support the optimization of downstream hydrometallurgical process.
Preventative maintenance of furnaces.
Construction and rebuilding furnaces

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Ingredients for success: what we look for in you…
PHD in metallurgy or closely related field and 2 years’ experience in the metallurgy industry; OR a Master's Degree in metallurgy or closely related field and 5 years’ experience in the metallurgy industry; OR a Bachelor's Degree in metallurgy or a closely related field and 7 years’ experience in the metallurgy industry or a closely related field.
Precious metals refining experience desired, but not required.
Strong communication skills and able to build productive relationships at all levels of the organization.
Creative problem solver with the ability to effectively influence others outside of span of control.
Knowledge and practice in design of experiments and other process improvement experimental tools.
Specific knowledge of critical Process Safety and regulatory compliance surrounding smelting operations.
Tenacity, resilience and demonstrated strong ability to assess and improve processes.
