Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Scientist III to join our coatings research and development team in Southfield, MI. The position focuses on exploratory innovation supporting the current Automotive OEM market, as well as, supporting new business development, both within and outside of the automotive industry. It requires a person high in creativity, strategic thinking and must possess an entrepreneurial spirit.

Scientist III (1700231)

You will plan and conduct various technical projects and executes complex, non-repetitive experiments utilizing creative approaches in seeking novel outcomes. You may employ theoretical and scientific models to guide project endeavors, but place heavy reliance on educational knowledge and prior experience in the field.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science with 5 years of industry experience in formulation, application testing, technical service OR Master's degree with 3 years of industry experience in formulation, application testing , technical service or PhD in Chemistry, Chemical engineering or Material Science

  • Extensive knowledge of automotive or related paint technologies and application processes preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to interact with customer

  • Excellent project management and organization skills to manage priorities and multi-task

  • Ability to analyze complicated data, interpret it, and create concise reports for the customer and use design of experiments when appropriate

  • Generation and filing of Intellectual Property
