We are seeking a Technical Account Manager, Southfield, MI, who will be part of the Transportation, Industrial, Furniture and Floor Coatings team to support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.
The Transportation, Industrial, Furniture and Floor coatings (TIF) business within Dispersions, Resins and Additives regional business unit (N-EDN) is responsible for supplying raw materials to coatings formulators and producers in target industry segments through collaboration with global key accounts, regional customers and distribution partners.
The Dispersions & Resins business of BASF develops, produces and markets a range of high-quality resins, additives, colorants and polymer dispersions worldwide. These raw materials are used in formulations for coatings and paints, printing and packaging products, construction chemicals, adhesives, fiberbondings, nonwovens, and paper manufacturing. Technical Account Manager (1700254) – Southfield, MI
You will interface with customers to deliver expert technical information, support, and direction. Cultivate strategic customer relationships at various levels with focus on Global and Regional key accounts as well as distribution partners. You will develop technical program strategies, with alignment with key customer account managers, and independently manage high-value technical projects. You will participate (and often lead) in all aspects of developing a customer specific technical solution to enable effective execution of the business strategy. You will also manage and execute the value sale of new and existing products.
Work closely with sales and marketing teams to develop and drive key strategies for Transportation Coating Applications.
Formula for Success: You Will…
Drive growth of resins, additives, and polymer dispersions as the primary technical interface with the identified customers for the Dispersion, Resins and Additives regional business unit (EDN).
Understand customer priorities, unmet needs and detailed customer value proposition to drive profitable growth with direct key customers and distribution network. Develop and implement technical projects to address customer needs in alignment with Key Account Manager and Market Segment Manger(s).
Develop strong relationships with key decision makers and influencers throughout the customer organization
Work closely with R&D and marketing to take new product developments to commercialization for the transportation market segment.
Manage all key aspects of the technical sales process including account planning with focus on customer strategic priorities, regular interface with customer stakeholders, identifying and qualifying potential projects, working within the sales funnel with constant follow-up tracking project progress towards commercialization, developing pre-call agendas and detailed written post-call reports. Consistently follow-up on customer projects, samples, and requests.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Scientific related field plus at least 10 years of relevant industry experience -OR- Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Engineering, or Scientific related field plus at least 7 years of relevant industry experience. A minimum of 5 years of your experience should come from industrial and/or automotive coatings paint formulation.
Knowledge in water-based and solvent-based industrial and/or automotive coatings paint formulations is preferred
Knowledgeable in acrylics, urethanes, and epoxy industrial and/or automotive coatings is beneficial
Familiarity with industrial and/or automotive coatings test protocols both for short-term and long-term product performance
Strong communication, presentation, and project leadership skills, including the ability to work with minimal direct supervision.
Highly motivated with ability to work well in a team setting and proven record of strong customer relationship and organizational skills, with emphasis on attention to detail.
Willingness and ability to travel a minimum of 50% of the time; preferred candidate will live in close proximity to Detroit, MI or Columbus, OH.
