Lab Technician II (1700537)

The purpose of the Lab Tech II role, located in Whitehouse, Ohio is to assist in the development of intermix formulations for automotive color formulations in the various paint lines supplied by the Automotive Refinish division. This includes both domestic and import paint vehicles. The primary function is the weighing and application of automotive refinish topcoats on test panels using automatic spray equipment. These activities must be done according to approved procedures insuring the color can be reproduced accurately day after day. The job will entail weighing samples and/or spraying samples as the workload calls for.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Accurately weigh and/or spray all refinish paint lines in a consistent and reproducible manner. This includes the selection of the correct reducer for various temperatures and weather conditions, again to insure consistency and accuracy.

  • Assist in the calibration of spray equipment, including both spray gun and spray machine so that equipment is always operating at proper specifications.

  • Troubleshoot application process to identify source of problem when sprayouts are not coming out correctly.

  • Assist in projects in the lab involving a variety of activities from reading colors, processing panels/labels, tracking steps completed, etc.

  • Assisting with stocking of the lab materials and cleaning/maintaining lab equipment/facilities.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…


  • High School or GED diploma is required

  • Some post-secondary background in a science discipline is preferred.


  • Minimum 3 years general full time work experience is required.

  • Experience in a laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Experience with BASF Refinish paint lines and materials is preferred.

  • Experience with paint application equipment is preferred.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs Word, Excel, and Access is preferred.

Required Knowledge/Skills

  • Strong work ethic and initiative

  • Good skills in basic mathematics, oral and written communication, and in organizational areas

  • Must have good visual color perception (will give a color test).

  • Must be able to safely lift 40 pounds.

  • Needs to be flexible and willing to adapt to needs of current situation to relieve bottlenecks.
