Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Project Engineer function is for planning, managing and executing Engineering Services in the Western Canada BASF sites. This includes providing technical and project support to approximately 10 sites and various businesses across the country. In this role, the Project Engineer is expected to provide Engineering solutions, in conjunction with both internal and external expertise, to ensure delivery of engineering support services and project execution. Additionally, support in knowledge sharing and development of a strong and effective Engineering Services team in BASF Canada.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Develop project scopes, generate and/or obtain cost estimates, and prepare appropriation funding requests

  • Ensure that appropriate project safety reviews are completed as required both before and after approval

  • Utilize applicable value- based Engineering practices (VBE) to optimize project scope and cost

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promote a safe working environment for project execution

  • Develop and maintain partnerships with assigned project manufacturing representatives to execute projects from initial scoping and funding, through detailed engineering and procurement, to startup and commissioning, and then final documentation and closure

  • Request and coordinate required process and discipline engineering and design resources, whether from the site or corporate groups or outside engineering vendors

  • Adhere to current corporate and plant requirements for equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences

  • Maintain SAP project data entries, monitor project progress through scheduling and other tools, perform project status

  • Perform procurement support activities as required, including preparing specifications, issuing requisitions, evaluating bids, and dealing with vendors. Works with Procurement and complies with applicable guidelines

  • Monitor and support construction activities to ensure that projects are completed according to the design deliverables, quality standards, and plant requirements, and that pre-startup safety reviews are conducted

  • Follow through to ensure that Operations achieves a successful project startup, and that any project-related action items are completed

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Bachelor of Science degree in an engineering field, preferably Mechanical Engineering

  • Minimum 4 years working experience within Engineering, Maintenance and Process Improvement environment within either a chemical or process plant environment

  • A strong technical background in either Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering

  • Registered Professional Engineering License is required

  • A good understanding of Health & Safety process plant environment

  • Experience as a Project Manager

  • Project management tools such as: MS Projects, Autocad

  • Interaction and communication at a high competency level in manufacturing technical discussions.

  • Basic understanding of Distributed Control Systems (DCS)and Safety Instrumented Systems(SIS)

  • Very strong customer focus capabilities to closely interact with multiple organizational levels at supported sites

  • Up to 50% travel is expected, subject to business needs and changing environment
