Chemist III – 1903563 – Charlotte, NC

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a Chemist III to work in the Dispersions & Pigments (ED) business unit as part of our Charlotte, NC company site.

You will complete hands-on application work on technical service projects for existing products and new products entering the commercialization phase to support growth with our customers. Additionally, you will coordinate lab work with Application Laboratory Technicians, may take general direction/collaboration with Technical Specialists, and will be responsible for equipment, SOP/JSA, and writing reports. This role is part of the Construction Solutions Application Laboratory team reporting directly to the Technical Team Leader.

Formula for Success

  • You will conduct technical comparisons of BASF products vs. competitive products in industry-specific application tests (proactive to determine value proposition and reactive in case of customer request) and provide others with respective results/analyses/path forward. In addition, you will complete technical application tests of products for troubleshooting to derive product recommendations and/or formulation recommendations by using multiple product lines of the portfolio and for support of growth opportunities and recommendation of next steps.

  • Leveraging your expertise in building materials such as sealants & flooring adhesives.

  • Leveraging your degree in Chemistry, Material Science or similar, in addition to industrial experience. Additionally, you will find your experience in formulation and application of waterbased binders and related technology to aid to your success in this role.

  • You will work effectively in a team environment and be able to work well under minimum supervision as well as directing others (technicians). You will additionally be responsible for demonstrating strong verbal and written communication skills while reporting results in presentation form as well as documentation (reports). Effectively communicating within the business, you will work with project teams to develop waterbased starting point formulations for new/existing product portfolio, as well as working cross functionally with R&D, marketing and sales departments.

  • Using your experience in ensuring and working in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards [minimum expectation]. Practicing strong maintenance of laboratory and laboratory equipment in compliance with 6S and ISO, knowledge of test methods and writing respective SOP/JSA. You will demonstrate strong laboratory skills and ability to work on multiple tasks and projects as well as directing others in addition to new method development and troubleshooting existing methods. Additionally, you will ensure compliance management (production &/or customer): and perform technical testing and assessment of individual products via application testing and other analysis and provide others with respective results/analyses and recommendation of next steps.

  • Maintaining focus on compliance management (production &/or customer), you will perform technical testing and assessment of individual products via application testing and other analysis as well as providing others with respective results/analyses and recommendation of next steps. Additionally, you will focus on organizing R&D application testing, results, data of new product evaluation, formulation support and recommendation of next steps, especially for products entering commercialization phase.
