Scientist III (Sr. Scientist) – 1904217 – Charlotte, NC

This position is permanently located in Charlotte.

There will be frequent travel Southfield, MI and Wyandotte, MI for training purposes.

Where the Chemistry Happens

This job is designed to expand the overall knowledge, synthesis and development technologies, polymerization processes and product portfolio of resins and dispersions used for the printing and packaging. Overall highlights:

  • Design and development of new polymers, testing procedures and starting point formulations in the field of inks and coatings for printing and packaging

  • Management of R&D projects efficiently and effectively to achieve target objectives, demonstrating strong capabilities in project planning & oversight

  • Proactively collaborates with the commercial teams to identify and resolve significant business opportunities.

Formula for Success

  • Ability to apply both fundamental principles and creativity to the development of new products. A passion for continuously learning and applying new tools for developing new products. Excellent hands-on experimentation and superior problem-solving skills. Excellent communication skills and ability to work and partner effectively with individuals outside of own organization.

  • Leveraging your PhD degree in polymer or material science, chemical engineering or polymer chemistry in addition to 3 years of experience/exposure to synthesis and development of resins and emulsion polymers or related fields.

  • Design, synthesis and development of new emulsion polymers and/or resins in the field of printing and packaging. Developing testing procedures and starting point formulations. Manage product development projects and direct activities of assigned technician(s) toward achieving project objectives.

  • Work closely with our regional business partners to analyze the adhesive market and identify unmet needs. Collaborate with our global research colleagues and external centers of excellence. Establish and maintain close working relationships with colleagues across the regions.

  • Stay current with scientific and technical advances in the field of inks, resins and coatings used for printing and packaging applications. Stay relevant to true customer/market needs and stay relevant technically and identify economical and viable solutions to unmet market needs.

  • Work closely with our regional business partners to analyze the printing and packaging market and identify unmet needs. Collaborate with our global research colleagues and external centers of excellence.
