Where the Chemistry Happens

As a Sr. Scientist Statistics you will support data analytics in the organization for 'data-driven decision making' across functions, being involved in various global projects within the company to develop tools, statistical pipelines and to promote the better use of experimental design and state-of-art data analytics in different areas of the seed business.

Formula for Success

  • Across function statistical consultancy.

  • Support Digitalization in Breeding and Predictive Breeding Roadmaps by contributing to the development of data analysis pipelines and tools.

  • Participate in projects within PD 2.0 to support efficient trial design and advanced data analysis in Product Development.

  • Support the regional R&D teams and other functions (eg: OTEC, M&S) to promote data analytics.

  • Improve decision-making process by enabling a more intense use of data analysis along the entire variety development pipeline.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • PhD in Plant Science, Plant Breeding, Data Science or related fields, or MSc in any of those areas

  • MSc with at least 5 years of relevant working experience

  • Post-doctoral research experience is preferred

  • Solid knowledge of standard statistical modelling techniques involving fixed and random terms, and generalized versions of both to deal with non-normal data

  • Basic theoretical understanding of Bayesian statistics and big data analysis techniques. A deeper understanding and experience in the application of those will be considered a plus.

  • Good understanding of quantitative genetics and plant (or animal) breeding is a big plus. General knowledge of biology, agronomy, molecular genetics, plant physiology, and other insights of relevant techniques in the seed industry will be valued.

  • Strong analytical skills to translate biological problems into appropriate statistical models, and to interpret and translate results back into concrete actions.

  • Proficient use of the statistical software R. Demonstrated experience in writing R packages and software development is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, team player, able to work within a diverse environment. The position will likely involve leading projects and people, so project and people management experience will be highly appreciated.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English. Spanish speaker is a plus. Command of other languages is valued.

  • Comfortable with Unix/Linux commands.
