The Materials & Corrosion Engineer supports BASF Corporation sites in North America by providing expertise in materials and corrosion. They collaborate with a team to optimize plant performance and reliability. Responsibilities include material selection, corrosion engineering, metallurgy, failure analysis, inspection, testing, and welding. They also lead global collaboration efforts.
As a Materials Engineer Sr., You Create Chemistry By...
Collaborating with plant personnel, technology, and engineering to select materials and guide welding processes, coatings, linings, elastomers, and seals. Providing expert technical support on corrosion mechanisms, control, and metallurgy for projects.
Leading, initiating and driving strategic analysis, studies, and activities to ensure reliable plant operation and resolve complex problems.
Coordinating corrosion testing for material selection, mechanical integrity assessment, and validation testing of new materials and processes.
Leading failure recovery activities, providing expert guidance in equipment repair and modification, performing root cause failure analysis, and recommending mitigation methods. Collaborating with procurement and technical site services to select skilled material suppliers, fabricators, and inspection service providers. Leading collaboration with BASF Engineering & Maintenance units and global working groups to align work processes, procedures, and best practices in materials engineering and technical inspection.
Coordinating corrosion testing, validation testing, failure recovery activities, and equipment repair/modification guidance.

If you...
Have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or Metallurgical Engineering preferred, but related technical degrees are considered.
Have 6+ years of experience in materials and corrosion engineering in the chemical/petrochemical industry.
Have understanding of industry codes, best practices, and work processes as well as the ability to work independently, influence stakeholders and collaborate effectively.
Have experience with SAP (preferred) or other Computerized Maintenance Management Systems. Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
