We are seeking a professional in the Energy Management Group that will support BASF in meeting its goals for a 25% reduction in CO2 by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. This position will support all of BASF North America. The role will interact internally with BASF sites in the United States (US), Government Affairs, Energy Procurement, Environmental Services, Public Funding and interact externally with US government agencies such as Utilities Commissions, Utilities, and Consumer Groups.

Formula for Success/Responsibilities:

  • Providing strategic advice and technical content to support the development of compelling proposals for United States federal and state funding and incentives.

  • Become familiar with BASF’s energy usage profile and needs across US including source types and demand amounts. Use this information to develop strategies for carbon reduction.

  • Facilitate multifunctional internal and external collaboration (Government Affairs, R&D community, EHS community, Manufacturing community, and External Partners, including Universities and National Labs) to identify and analyze specific projects to advance carbon reduction opportunities in NA.

  • Based on targeted carbon reduction opportunities, monitor requests for information (RFI), Notices of Intent (NOI) and funding opportunity announcements (FOA) from US Federal and State governments that match to Regional and Local site carbon reduction projects.

  • Research and align relevant internal stakeholders (including Global Public Funding, Controlling, Tax, and Legal) on the development and adoption of processes for proposals and Grant Applications and post-Grant auditing, reporting and compliance as well as incentive/tax credit requirements.

  • Partner with BASF Government Affairs on engagement with federal and state decision-makers on collaboration and funding opportunities that support the overall carbon reduction mission and goals of BASF.

  • Understand all key deliverables and collaborate with relevant internal stakeholders to develop methods and strategies for addressing such considerations in funding applications and after-award reporting.

  • Structure and support the authorship of resulting BASF proposals, incentive applications, and grant requests.

  • Monitor the grant process after award and ensure compliance with resulting obligations.

  • Understand the BASF Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) process and its use and assist with approvals for NDAs and MOUs when working with external parties on carbon reduction and renewable energy activities.

  • Partner with BASF Government Affairs and other internal stakeholders to support BASF’s effort in industry coalitions including the Carbon Capture Coalition, Energy Users Groups, and others that develop to help support sustainability efforts.

  • Maintain an understanding of energy markets manufacturing facilities to support energy demand management.

Required qualifications:

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or related field

  • ​​​​​​​5 – 8 years of experience in manufacturing or sustainability

  • Demonstrate ability to communicate (verbal and written), interact, and influence with all levels including production technicians, staff associates, managers, and leaders.

  • Demonstrates strong internal and external customer service focus to build and maintain positive working relationships

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience working in a global matrix environment.

  • Experience at a manufacturing site.

  • Experience in grant research and writing, sustainability/life cycle analyses, and plant operational or technical experience.
