Mechanical Specialist - MDI (2202799) – Geismar, LA

Where the Chemistry Happens

This position is responsible for developing the competencies and capabilities of the rotating millwright team. You will also coordinate prompt, safety and quality repairs to process equipment through perfect execution, accurate scheduling and time management. This role will oversee the rotating equipment maintenance program, ensuring work is completed safely, reliably, efficiently, timely and cost effectively to required level of quality. It also supports the team in achieving tactical goals, providing required tools and equipment to be successful while removing obstacles and hinderances. Lastly, you will manage unplanned breakdowns to minimize production loss, redeploying resources and ensuring appropriate risk mitigation is incorporated into the plan.

Formula for Success

  • Ensures all the tools and equipment for the team are available and in good working condition for execution of work, in particular special tools for critical rotating equipment.

  • Supervises shutdown and turnaround work planning and execution by coordinating the short and long-term plans with the key stakeholders.

  • Collaborates with other crafts and departments to ensure work is properly aligned and prioritized.

  • Provides rotating equipment advice and technical expertise to supporting crafts and Millwright technicians. Provides guidance to the team to troubleshoot plant issues and identify root causes.

  • Assigns work and reviews team logs, reporting and QA/QC documentation, ensuring corrective action is taken when required.

  • Audits jobs plans, JHA documents and field execution.

  • Ensures all plant maintenance is implemented in accordance with BASF standards and best practices.

  • Collaborates with Mechanical Engineers to develop and optimize the maintenance program to meet plant availability requirements.

  • Collaborates with warehouse and reliability teams to ensure critical equipment spares are identified and available.

  • Provides regular, timely updates about rotating work and team to relevant stakeholders, including Maintenance Manager and Production Coordinators.


  • Millwright Trade Certification with at least 10 years of rotating equipment experience.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

  • All candidates must have a minimum of 5 years supervisory experience or displayed leadership.

  • Experience with Predictive and Preventative Maintenance programs.

  • Experience with Reliability techniques and analysis.

  • Able to set and meet deadlines which can arise at short notice.

  • Able to quickly adapt to changing priorities.
