Shift Supervisor – Carboxy (1802195) – Geismar, LA

The Chemical Intermediates group offers a comprehensive portfolio of chemical processes and innovative specialties. With our finished products and chemical intermediates, we contribute to the success of our customers worldwide. Customers both external and internal to BASF.
The Chemical Intermediates Group has an opportunity for a Shift Supervisor in the Carboxy department located at the BASF Geismar, LA location. The Carboxy department manufactures Acetylene, 2-pyrolidone and n-vinyl pyrrolidone for inter-department use, polyvinyl pyrrolidone for cosmetic and pharma sales, and Formic Acid. These processes offer the unique exposure to continuous, batch, gas, liquids, and solids chemical unit operations all within the same manufacturing department. This position reports to the Production Supervisor.
In this role, you will supervise work activities of assigned Daily Operations Team (DOT) personnel engaged in operating the plant(s) within the cluster safely and reliably to produce products. Your primary focus is to maintain a safe and reliable plant and to develop the Operators that work in the cluster.
Formula for Success
Your strong leadership skills will be a valued asset as you supervise work activities of Daily Operations Team shift personnel engaged in operating equipment and processes (e.g., chemical reactors, compression, distillation, filtration, absorption) using materials which are flammable, corrosive, hazardous, and toxic in nature to produce products.
Your professional background in a chemical operations environment will be essential as you execute daily operating plans in conjunction with, and under the supervision of, the Production Supervisor.
Your commitment to workplace safety will be critical as you will assume responsibility for the safety of all Daily Operations Team members under area of supervision while ensuring all safety rules and regulations are strictly enforced.
Leveraging your strong coaching and training skills, you will instruct new operators and keep the shifts updated on Management of Change issues, procedural revisions, and required regulatory training.
Successfully engaging inside and outside the organization, you will regularly interface with the Daily Operations Team (DOT), Daily Support Team (DST), Technical Engineering Services Team (TES), Analytical Services, Technology Group, contractors, and outside vendors.
With your ability to resolve problems in different manufacturing areas that effect plant performance, you will work with the Daily Support Team in priority setting and equipment repairs; and for timeliness of equipment preparation for maintenance.
