Sr. Instrument & Controls / SIS Engineer
Where the Chemistry Happens…
This is a safety and reliability-focused Instrument & Control Systems / SIS Engineering job. The role is long-term and strategic-focused and has responsibility to drive maintenance, reliability, asset availability and safety performance utilizing the most appropriate and effective tools and techniques across Chemical & Intermediates (CI).
As a Sr. Instrument & Controls / SIS Engineer, you will
Demonstrate a strong working knowledge of Instrumentation, Process Control, Fire & Gas, Safety Instrumented Systems (Triconex/HIMA), Distributed Control Systems (i.e. Foxboro/DeltaV), PLC’s (i.e. Allen Bradley), & Boiler Management Systems.
Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting expertise to Operations, Maintenance, and the Construction organization.
Provide oversight and technical support to Capital projects during FEL, detailed design & engineering, construction, and commissioning.
Review and sign-off on Instrument & Control IFA/FC Packages.
Support FAT/SAT Commissioning activities.
Supervise the design, specification, application, installation, & testing of Safety Instrumented Systems across CI.
Participate in PHA’s, LOPA’s, HAZOP’s, and Functional Safety Assessments / Safety Integrity Level (SIL) Studies.
Oversee the development of test plans, Proof test procedures, Safety Requirements Specifications, Cause & Effect diagrams, logic narratives, SIS hardware/software configuration, and inspection.
Factory & Site Acceptance Testing (FAT/SAT), loop checks, commissioning & startup support.
Diagnose I/O related issues within Safety PLC’s and remote IO systems.
Audit and provide assurance that SIS designs meet both project and corporate specifications, as well as industry standards.
Assure proper design, installation, and repair of instrument and control equipment in assigned areas while Identifying opportunities / improvements that will increase productivity, process repeatability, reduce cost and risk of employee exposure.
Work collaboratively with onsite technical groups (Capital Projects, Maintenance, Process), Corporate technical networks & peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed for issue resolution.
Provide leadership and disciplined guidance to less experienced engineers, technicians, maintenance, and production teams.
Assist with the development of Critical Equipment lists and Critical Spares Inventory.
Implement reliability best practices, developing and optimizing preventative and predictive maintenance tasks, while supporting field maintenance activities.
Be responsible for the interpretation and adherence to BASF Technical Standards, industry standards, and applicable regulatory and design codes, as applicable to specific projects.
Your formula for Success: What We Look for in You…
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical or Computer Engineering preferred
At least 7 years of related engineering experience in either a chemical or refinery manufacturing environment.
Safety Instrumented System (SIS) Engineer certification or familiarization with safety instrumented systems is highly preferred.
Strong knowledge of Engineering Standards and best practices from ISA 84 or IEC 61508/11
Proven experience in maintenance and/or reliability work process implementation
Must have analytical thinking, initiative, team leadership/collaboration, and coaching.
Successful candidate must be able to work independently, with minimal supervision, while delivering objectives of role based on agreed upon goals.
Knowledge of SAP and how it is used to track costs and maintenance history will be required.
