Formula for Success: You Will…

GSH Truck Handling and Dock operators are responsible for conducting the daily activities related to the loading/unloading of both bulk and packaged finished goods and raw materials for the Polyurethane Systems facility.

Operator responsibility and accountability includes, but is not limited to:

  • Reads standard operating procedures and familiarizes self with the safe operation of plant equipment.

  • Transfer raw materials in totes, drums or other packages to the blend vessel area via sit down or stand up forklifts.

  • Assists with the packaging of finished products from blending vessels into totes or drums using semi-automatic packaging systems

  • Able to wear and utilize all personal protective equipment (PPE) specified by the site, OSHA, or any other regulatory agencies. Uses SCBA during emergencies.

  • Performs safety checklists on a routine basis and actively participates and supports the safety and LEAN programs.

  • Understands fundamental concepts of shipping operations including the operation of Dok Lok restraint and fall protection systems, dock doors, in-line tuning fork and over fill protection instrumentation

  • Loads tank trucks. Opens internal and external valves on tankers prior to loading. Connects and disconnects hoses.

  • Verifies that the truck tankers meet DOT standards including proper placards and that truck’s VIK tests dates are in compliance.

  • Performs area housekeeping to maintain order and to ensure that all necessary supplies are available.

  • Maintain an acceptable attendance and safety record.

  • Connects/disconnects transfer and vent hoses, and line up dedicated product lines from Production Building

  • Completes weekly safety checklist for areas of responsibility. Corrects deficiencies, signs and reviews checklist with Lead Operator before the end of shift as required.

  • Monitors area for leaks and addresses minor leaks by tightening flanges, hose connections, plugs, caps, etc. Reports leaks or repairs that must be addressed by maintenance to Lead Operator.

  • Checks raw material tank levels to ensure adequate room available before off-loading materials.

  • Works with GSH operators to perform line swaps when necessary between products before loading incompatible materials.

  • Inspects tank trailers prior to loading to ensure that are clean and dry, leak checked, proper capacity, and inspection dates are current.

  • Pulls samples as required for loading/unloading, fills out sample requests, and delivers samples to the lab. Communicates with lab technicians to ensure products/materials are approved before shipping or off-loading.

  • Verifies paperwork to ensure the proper material is being loaded/unloaded to/from tank truck. Confirms quantity being loaded/unloaded to prevent overfilling storage tank.

  • Verifies all tank trucks are properly sealed and labeled to meet BASF and DOT requirements. Utilizes TJA s, check sheets, and loading/unloading procedures provided in Documentum to ensure all precautions are taken to prevent spills, leaks, and cross contamination.

  • Consistently and accurately documents all loading and unloading using SAP and transfer sheet including tank trailer numbers, lot numbers, seal numbers, products, raw materials, and quantities.

  • Starts and stops equipment, cleans strainers as needed and communicates activities to Lead Operator managing the Distributed Control System.

  • Interacts and communicates via phone/radio/person with lab technicians, instrument technicians, GSH operators and Lead Operator to troubleshoot problems in the shipping areas.

  • Mitigates spills, leaks, and other plant emergencies using the proper PPE and emergency response procedures.

  • Assists maintenance mechanics in larger repairs as needed.

  • Responds to all plant emergencies in all areas of the plant including leaks, spills, process upset conditions, and small fires.

  • Trains other personnel on TT and Dock Operator duties in the plant as needed.

  • Stays current with qualification training, operational procedural training, refresher training, MSDS training, Management of Change (MOC), and safety procedure changes.

  • Participate in all aspects of Process Safety including AIM report investigations, MOC’s PSSRs, Mechanical integrity, SOP’s, Hazard analysis, etc.

  • Trains and maintains certification on the emergency response, fire brigade, hazardous materials response, and rescue teams as applicable.

  • Performs other job duties as workload dictates or assigned by Lead Operator.

  • Stays familiar with SAP, sample label programs, WMS (Warehouse Management System) and other electronic programs as required.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required

  • Minimum of 3 years of manufacturing industry experience required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years experience in the Chemical and/or manufacturing experience highly preferred

  • PTEC or other post-secondary technical program preferred

  • Strong technical and mechanical aptitude

  • Hands-on DCS and PLC experience required

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
