This role supports our manufacturing facility that operates 24/7. In this role, you will be responsible to set the direction, lead implementation and ensure compliance with BASF and regulatory process safety requirements such as OSHA PSM. In this role, you will serve as the Process Safety expert for the Greenville ECP Coatings facility as well as coordinate alignment with EC global to ensure all required process safety requirements are effectively implemented and maintained.

As a Process Safety Specialist, you will provide process safety expertise to safely carry out our operations by identifying and controlling the hazards of 1) the materials we handle, 2) the chemical processes we run, and 3) the physical equipment we use. By providing process safety expertise during safety reviews for new and existing processes, you will help ensure the safe design and on-going operation of our facilities, reducing the risk of accidents, injuries and illnesses to employees, our communities and customers.

You will be tasked with continually improving your technical competency in process safety and that of your colleagues involved with the design and operation of our facilities. This can be demonstrated by providing expert consultation on process safety issues and developing and delivering specific process safety training content, courses, and seminars with a target to build expert level certifications across the site and the ECP business group.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for interpreting, communicating, and developing compliance strategies for Company, federal, state and provincial requirements, including Responsible Care® activities, as they impact the operations of the Company and our customers and partners. You Create Chemistry By...

  • Providing Process Safety expertise in the process hazard analysis (PHA) process for both capital projects and existing units, you will ensure the safe, environmentally sound and sustainable design and operation.

  • Providing the Greenville leadership with regular reports on the Process Safety status of the site and current PSM related issues.

  • Developing and implementing Process Safety programs and culture to improve the safe operation of the Company’s chemical processing facilities.

  • Providing management of change support and incident investigation support as required, including analysis of incident root cause data, development of effective measures to prevent recurrence, and communication of key lessons learned.

  • Fulfilling the role of PSM Coordinator for the Greenville Site including primary support for facility siting related topics.

  • Identifying, collecting, and validating information necessary to effectively communicate to stakeholder communities. This includes capturing know-how, successfully demonstrated practices and technical expertise. Use of multiple communication platforms is an essential key to success.

  • Interfacing with external stakeholders such as regulatory agencies, trade associations and non-governmental agencies to promote BASF philosophies and leverage benchmarking opportunities.

If you...

  • Technical Engineering or Science-related BS degree (or higher degree) required

  • Strong expertise in regulatory and technical aspects of Process Safety Management (PSM) is required

  • Must have at least 5+ years of experience in OSHA PSM, either as an EHS expert or with implementation of requirements.

  • Supervisory or management experience of team members.

  • Minimum 2 years of EHS experience in a chemical/ manufacturing environment.

  • Must be a self-starter and demonstrate strong sense of initiative.

  • Strong computer skills (MS-Word, MS-Excel, MS-PowerPoint and MS-Teams). STATUR experience preferred.

  • Previous PHA and BHA expertise.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong collaboration, teamwork, interpersonal relations, customer focus, influencing and impact skills required.
