Communication Specialist (2201975) – Houston, TX

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to develop and implement the divisional internal and external communications strategy and activities for BASF’s Petrochemicals North America (CPN) division. You will develop, coordinate, and implement Business Unit-specific strategic communications programs for both internal and external audiences, ensuring alignment with the Petrochemicals vision and consistency with BASF values and key messaging.

You will develop and implement internal communications strategies and activities to support CPN employee engagement, leadership initiatives and change management. Partnering closely with the strategic business unit leaders you will support and/or lead marketing strategies and efforts to increase awareness and enhance the reputation of BASF’s Petrochemicals business in our target markets.

Reporting to the Strategic Human Resources Business and Manufacturing Advisor, Petrochemicals North America, you will display creativity and excellent verbal, written, and graphic communication skills developed over time during your experience in business, marketing, marketing communications and/or public relations roles in a corporate environment. This experience will shape the development, execution, and impact of initiatives in ways that successfully support the internal and external communication needs of the Petrochemicals business in North America.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your education in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field combined with your proven experience in a combination of business, marketing communications and/or public relations roles in a corporate environment, preferably for businesses with a large manufacturing footprint, you will develop and manage strategic communications plans tailored for internal and external audiences, to achieve business goals.

  • Your effective interpersonal skills will serve you well as you ensure coordination, consistency in messaging, and collaboration between a cross section of manufacturing and business personnel to implement communications vehicles across the business and manufacturing sites aimed at fostering two-way dialogue where comments, questions and feedback are encouraged.

  • You will be skilled at planning and executing communication activities such as development of key messages, talking points and Q&As, Public Relations, advertising, literature, and marketing tools and well versed in effective use of social media.

  • You will lead the development and execution of progressive internal communications programs. This includes developing digital internal communication tools and tactics for the division, such as online publications, newsletters, broadcasts, intranet, and digital signage, all aimed at supporting the CPN culture and driving employee engagement. Your proven ability to work closely with leaders (executive, business, or similar leaders) will ensure successful communication of projects, strategies and progress on key cultural initiatives. Delivering strategic and tactical communications will keep colleagues engaged, empowered and well-informed about business unit and divisional strategies.

  • Your effective written communication skills will be used to communicate our regional success stories, business accomplishments, and human-interest stories, including at the corporate and divisional level as appropriate.

  • Your expertise in digital communications will be important as you work in close alignment with commercial team leads to successfully deploy marketing communications and digital marketing strategies in support of CPN’s customer engagement roadmap.

  • Your strong verbal and presentation skills, along with proficiency in MS Office will serve you well as you create, review and coach members of the North America Petrochemicals Leadership team in the development of communication content, including social media posting, external and internal presentations.

  • Exercising your ability to work effectively under pressure, you will ensure the development and execution (if needed), of appropriate crisis communications plans.

  • Your ability to monitor and measure the effectiveness of communications through digital analytics, surveys and other key performance indicators, will be key as you make data-driven recommendations.

  • Successfully engaging across the organization, you will work in collaboration with global and regional communication colleagues to adapt and localize global communication strategies. You will also collaborate with global and regional corporate communications to support One Voice communications, the “one business, one team” strategy and the BASF brand.
