Where the Chemistry Happens

BASF’s Chemical Catalysts & Adsorbents business is seeking a professional like you with a strong blend of technical and consultative skills to execute and implement strategies that support the acquisition of new business and growth opportunities for a broad and diverse portfolio within our global market. Focusing specifically on Engineering Companies (EPC’s) and Technology Licensors, you will be responsible for establishing deep relationships with key account contacts within our established or targeted network for current and future petrochemical projects.

Demonstrating your global experience in Business Development, Sales, Project and/or Product Management, you will collaborate with technical resources to support and articulate technology capabilities, enlist support to provide understanding of customer needs and technical requirements, gather data for account initiatives and proposals, proactively manage account development and complex pipeline management, work closely with the Regional Sales Director, and develop deep product and program knowledge including an understanding of BASF’s unique selling proposition versus the competition. This role will require a domestic (international travel based on specific business needs) travel up to 50%.

Formula for Success

  • Leveraging your combined education and professional experience in an Engineering or relevant discipline you will have direct responsibility for the overall sales process, aiming to meet or exceed sales targets, implement strategic account-specific plans for identified customers, by conducting strategic account planning with financial (Business Margin)/volume targets and critical milestones.

  • Your ability to influence others and outstanding verbal and written communication skills will be essential as you influence decision-makers in a complex environment within BASF on all levels, and drive actions/decisions - even without disciplinary responsibility.

  • Successfully engaging across the organization, you will coordinate with all internal stakeholders to properly manage the complex timelines of multiple projects. Many of these projects may be developed in North America for eventual construction in other regions. Close coordination with the Commercial and Technical teams of the SBU will be critical to successful management of these new sales.

  • Utilizing your business segment application knowledge and thorough knowledge of the entire customer and market value chain, you will anticipate relevant market trends.

  • Your proven ability to identify, internally drive business opportunities and develop winning strategies that deliver commercial results within a diverse, challenging and competitive business climate will be a valued asset as you collect customer demand and translate it into an accurate forecast.

  • Acting as a market intelligence gatherer, you will collect information from industry events, customers, etc., share with appropriate members of the organization, and document market changes using the established market map document.

  • Your robust problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to develop and implement creative solutions to complex problems while working well on a results-driven team, will aid you in understanding market trends and unmet customer needs.

  • Generating timely call reports using the new CRM tool, you will provide monthly high/low lights as well as key customer and market intelligence, lead documentation, and sales forecast maintenance.
