Houston, TX (Energy Tower IV) or Geismar, LA - Hybrid (3 days working onsite, 2 days remotely)

We are seeking a professional like you to join our Procurement team at the Houston, TX (Energy Tower IV) or Geismar, LA site. In this role, you will act as an instrumental part in the purchase of technical goods. The Category Buyer will work closely with Corporate Engineering and site stakeholders to purchase piping, steel, and mixing equipment in the North America region, responsible for $60M of spend.

As a Global Category Buyer - Mechanical Equipment, you create chemistry by...

  • Leading negotiations to deliver value and mitigate risk on the packages you procure on behalf of your stakeholders.

  • Identifying stakeholder requirements and proactively communicating procurement-related progress, issues, and concerns.

  • Supporting the development of procurement strategies, including recommending suppliers.

  • Collaborating with the Businesses, Engineering & Maintenance, and Legal teams to develop contracting strategies that address companies' needs while considering appropriate risk management measures in a highly dynamic and evolving market environment.

  • Providing an in-depth understanding of the capabilities and capacity of equipment categories to ensure optimal vendor selection to meet current and future BASF volume requirements.

  • Continually evaluating and assessing the market in terms of shop capacity, metal prices, and other market trends.

  • Gathering data from multiple sources to assess BASF versus 'best-in-class' industry benchmarks.

  • Monitoring Procurement performance against milestones and providing periodic reports to management.

  • Supporting the development of bid packages, execution of RfQs, participation in bid walks, preparing the commercial evaluations, and executing final contracts.

If you...

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Marketing, Supply Chain, Accounting, Construction Management or a related field. An advanced degree is a plus.

  • Demonstrate at least 5 years of experience working in similar positions.

  • Possess strong business acumen.

  • Display excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.

  • Showcase strong negotiation skills.
