Our Team (Technical Expertise and Engineering) is searching for a Instrumentation, Controls, and Process Analyzer Expertise Manager at our Houston, Tx Energy Tower location.

As the Manager of the Instrumentation, Controls, and Process Analyzer group in the Technical Expertise organization, you will be instrumental in leading a group of highly skilled I&C Lead Engineers and Process Analytical experts in providing the BASF sites across the North American region with effective capital project implementations, and operational support to enhance the capability, reliability and sustainability of their assets.

  • Leading Corporate Engineering Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) engineers in preparing Front End loading design packages, Detailed Design Services, and Construction support for successful execution of all capital projects.

  • Providing I&C, Process Analyzer Technology (PAT) leadership for Small and Large Capital Projects regarding Front End Loading (FEL), detailed design, construction, and turnaround (TAR) activities as well as, leading and aligning regional and global initiatives, procedures, and work processes.

  • Embracing BASF CORE values and department focus areas to develop the staff, building a high-performance team by providing performance feedback, career development advice, and competency development through training.

  • Providing guidance and corrective measures when performance targets are not being met and/or issues arise, as well on the development and optimization of corporate I&C Engineering procedures, work processes, best practices, and tools and as you coordinate this effort on a regional basis and participate on a global basis with-in BASF. You will be responsible for proactively pursuing new technology, digitalization, and innovative solutions to facilitate cost-efficient designs and construction.

  • Your strong collaboration and support with other managers within Technical Expertise group, especially with the other discipline managers within the Technical Expertise Automation, Controls, and Electrical (TE-ACE) group. Collaborating also with Business unit representatives and project managers in staffing the projects with appropriate expertise.

  • Influencing and motivating regional and global stakeholders to adopt, implement and sustain appropriate processes related to Instrumentation and Controls. (Oversee the creation of strategies, tools, procedures and guidelines, and influence stakeholders to implement accordingly.) Including active participation on regional and global teams (working groups & Procurement Verbund Teams (PVTs)) as well as in industry organizations (i.e., PIP, ISA), and industry standards committees.

Your formula for success…

  • Degree: BS in Engineering, (preferable in Chemical or Electrical/Computer Engineering)

  • Experiences: 12 years in Chemical Industry and experience in Capital Project execution especially in the Instrument and Control discipline areas

  • Experience in supervision or management is preferred, experience in Instrument & Control lead role on projects is preferred

  • Experience working in different contracting environments (EPC, Multiple Lump Sum, High Value Engineering (HVE) etc.)  with external contractors and understanding of respective division of work and responsibilities.

  • Proven supervision and leadership experience coupled with your experience working on international teams with diverse cultural backgrounds.

  • Strong practical knowledge in Automation, Process Control, Instrumentation and Safety Instrumented Systems both internal and external to BASF.
