Global Customer Quality Assurance Engineer (2001377) – Huntsville, AL
Where the Chemistry Happens
We are seeking a professional like you to ensure that agreed customer requirements are met globally by aligning internal stakeholders. In this role, you will build deep relationships with customers and translate internal capabilities into specifications agreed upon with customers. You will also work to identify quality issues and bring these to a resolution suitable to the customer. Finally, you will strive to improve overall product quality and effectiveness of quality systems. Although not required, any or all of the following competencies will be advantageous in this role: working knowledge of SAP, experience working with or for a company with plants located globally and experience working with a global customer, prior experience working in customer quality, prior experience working with FMEA, and a basic knowledge in catalyst coatings. TS Auditor and ASQ certifications in Quality, Engineering, and Auditing are also a plus.
Travel for this role is estimated to be up to 50% of the time (overnight).
Formula for Success
Leveraging your education in Chemistry, Engineering or Quality Management and your related experience in a quality, research, or engineering, you will serve as the global quality contact to the customer and commercial team.
Your advanced communication skills and prior experience working in a large complex matrix organization will serve you well as you provide feedback and justification to the business team for changes which will improve BASF's relationship with the customer. You will also ensure analytical and manufacturing techniques are consistent from site to site and meet agreed customer specifications through alignment with Local Quality Assurance Engineers.
Demonstrating your ability to negotiate and influence others, you will negotiate with the customer to implement globally aligned best practices for quality control testing, product inspection, data reporting, and information sharing with the customer. You will also negotiate product specifications with the customer during the sales cycle that are in alignment with internal BASF capabilities and account team strategy.
Your familiarity with quality systems such as ISO 9001, TS16949, AS9100, and Root Cause Analysis will be a valued asset as you ensure manufacturing sites are prepared for and successfully pass customer audits.
Applying your experience and knowledge gained from working in the automotive sector of heavy-duty industries, you will support the Product Life Cycle Process for global program implementations to ensure all quality requirements are addressed and negotiated (internally and externally).
Your familiarity with automotive tools such as FMEA, PPAP, APQP, and SPC will be essential as you perform quality reviews of catalyst design-FMEA for compliance with stated customer requirements, specifications, and quality records. You will also use this knowledge for PPAP preparation, ensuring a successful PPAP outcome and customer approval.
Your strong customer focus will be evident as you ensure customer specific requirements are included in the internal audit plan.
Demonstrating your customer interaction experience and relationship building skills, you will partner with local quality assurance during quality issues to ensure internal global alignment and manage the relationship with the customer. Additionally, you will use these abilities to escalate significant issues or developments identified during quality assurance activities and provide recommended process improvements and solutions to management.
Your solid analytical and computer skills, with ability to learn new operating systems, will aid you as you prepare customer related reports (for example customer scorecard), including analysis and driving implementation of needed actions. You will also use these skills as you review and approve customer samples using quality control data.
Being self-directed with the ability to operate independently with minimal supervision, you will approve changes to existing products or process which have previously been agreed by the customer and partner with the sales organization to gain acceptance of changes with customers.
Utilizing your robust project management and problem-solving skills, you will be accountable for coordinating the investigation of customer complaints in partnership with local QA and be responsible to communicate the outcome to the customer, including claim management.
