Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Purchasing Lead (Seeds) is accountable to the Director, Canola Seed Supply and is responsible for the leading a professional and efficient sourcing and purchasing strategy related to goods and services as required for the Canadian Seeds business. This will include goods and services as required for functions such as general administration, trait development, breeding, product excellence, seed supply and sales and marketing and also for CapEx items. This position will play an important role in the development of a favorable COGs position through cost effective and timely acquisition of raw materials for our seeds finished goods. This position will assist and/or manage the development of contracts as required for the respective goods and services as required for our seed business. This position will also assist and/or manage the development or ongoing relationship with the various vendors that supply goods and services for our business. This position will also administer and support the payment processes associated with procurement of the various goods and services.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Ongoing engagement with all Seeds stakeholders to understand the business and the respective priorities relevant to business success

  • Develop and/or implement sourcing strategies that will keep the Seeds business competitive in the marketplace, this includes a strong focus on risk assessment and mitigation, minimizing single sources, then to ensure compliance and transparency clear documentation of procurement decisions and negotiation of procurement / supply contracts

  • Provide category-specific market intelligence and conduct scenario analyses to identify how best to mitigate supply risk, gain competitive advantage and make better business decisions

  • Continuously conduct detailed supplier and supply market analysis identifying market trends in supply base and technology, supplier issues or risks, supply risks, or supplier innovation potential opportunities

  • Manage complex supplier relationships and implement supplier management principles in supply base, build relationships and improve supplier performance

  • Incorporate company’s responsibility and commitment to sustainable business practices into category supplier relationships and ensure compliance through reports, audits and improvement plans

  • Understand contract structures and BASF corporate policies. Utilize this knowledge to prepare and negotiate with suppliers then implement a contract aligned with the business requirements

  • Proactively pursue market opportunities in order to achieve advantageous conditions; i.e. identifying and orchestrating sourcing activities that leverage all Bayer Canada spend, new supplier identification and validation, risk mitigation opportunities, etc

  • Efficiently execute operational day-to-day purchasing (requisitioning and PO processing) services for goods and services as required in country

  • Support the payables process associated with procurement, ensure that payment for goods and services are completed accurately and in a timely and compliant manner.

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • University/College degree/diploma in a business related field

  • 5 years purchasing experience

  • Experience in Sourcing and Supply strategy development and implementation

  • Excellent negotiation skills combined with contract management knowledge and up to date knowledge of the market place and market trends

  • Supplier management and Stakeholder engagement capabilities

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and processes

  • Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS Office and SAP –MRP

  • Clear, concise written and oral communication skills

  • Supply Chain Management Professional designation considered an asset

  • Technical knowledge of seeds business is considered an asset, specific to the goods and services as required for this business
