In the Advanced Materials & Systems Research Division, our multifaceted team works together to develop functional materials and systems for high-performance, innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers in various different industries. At the same time, we meet the legal and economic requirements.

What you can expect

The bioanalytical group is seeking a highly motivated student starting spring 2021. As part of your six-month internship, you will have the opportunity to gain extensive insight into the research and development of new polymer-based products within BASF. In this lab-based internship, the successful candidate will be exposed to a broad range of technologies and will work together with multi-disciplinary teams. This position offers an outstanding opportunity for an individual willing to develop new ideas and thrive in an industrial setting.

  • As intern you have the chance to work together with internal partners in R&D in a corporate research environment.

  • You will test and develop new assay systems to characterize the enzymatic hydrolysis of novel polymers for basic research and commercial applications.

  • You support the analysis of ongoing research projects and work on multiple strategies to evaluate the use of polymers for protein purification/stabilization.

  • An integral part of your work will be the documentation, presentation and discussion of your research results in our multi-disciplinary teams.

  • You need to plan, execute and complete your projects under the direction of a lab team leader.

  • Furthermore, you will conduct work in a manner compliant with safety and stewardship regulation.

What we expect

  • Master student of biochemistry, biology or a comparable discipline

  • fundamental understanding of biochemistry, especially protein science

  • hands-on experience with biochemical and/or biophysical characterization methods of proteins (e.g. activity assays, protein purification)

  • experience in assay development, enzyme kinetics or polymer chemistry is beneficial

  • ability to build relationships and to integrate in a team-based environment

  • self-motivated and creative with a keen interest in exploring a broad range of topics

  • strong problem-solving skills and an ability to organize yourself (thoughts, data, etc.)
