BASF Canada, a leader in the global markets of chemical manufacturing and distribution has an immediate opportunity for a contributing team player in Mississauga, Ontario for a Contract Communications Specialist.

Where the Chemistry Happens…

Under the general direction of the Senior Manager, Communications, Government Affairs, and Sustainability, this position has responsibility for coordinating external communications for BASF Canada to maintain and strengthen BASF’s reputation amongst external stakeholders. Excellent written communication skills are essential to this position and duties will include producing written materials like press releases, articles, web content and printed materials. This position will also contribute to the development and execution of communication plans for sponsorship, charitable giving and external events.

Formula for Success: You Will…

Media Relations

  • Writing press releases and articles for external publications, printed and online

  • Liaising with local and national news sources both reactively and proactively

  • With direction from Senior Manager, Communications, Government Affairs, and Sustainability preparing appropriate spokesperson(s) for media interviews and opportunities

Corporate Events

  • Contributing to the planning and execution of special events, including customer events, and internal town hall meetings

Social Media

  • Preparing content for BASF Canada internet and social media platforms (Twitter)

  • Monitoring social media platforms and leveraging partners’ activities where appropriate

Community Relations

  • Preparing and facilitating site communications plans as they relate to crisis communications and community relations

Other duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Identifying and executing BASF’s participation in strategic sponsorship opportunities and events.

  • Coordinating corporate charitable giving activities, liaising with not for profit organizations and identifying and executing press opportunities.

  • Contributing to brand management and brand awareness in Canada. This includes liaising with vendors to manage the placement and frequency of corporate advertising in Canada.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelors degree in Communications, and/or a Diploma in Public Relations, Journalism or a related field, along with a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in a corporate or agency setting.

  • The position requires excellent written and oral communication skills. French language competencies are a strong asset.

  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite programs.

  • Demonstrated ability to deliver concise writing and message development for an external audience.

  • Strong social media skills across a variety of platforms.

  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as the ability to multi-task and pay attention to detail.
