Strategic Account Manager

Where the Chemistry Happens

The Strategic Accounts Manager is responsible for driving accelerated growth of BASF’s agricultural product portfolio to designated distribution management; maintaining and building good business/trade relationships with designated distributors and linked accounts. Collaboration with key personnel regarding business planning/implementation, product support/selling; assisting the National Account Manager with linked customer contact, meeting and call preparation in addition to various administrative and special project responsibilities. The Strategic Accounts Manager is the central and coordinating BASF contact for all facets of the BASF business relationship with designated distribution.

Core Responsibilities:

i. Call on designated distributors to communicate the value of BASF’s products.

ii. Develop a value-based Account Plan for each customer based on their unique needs, interests, and business goals and objectives in order to maximize sales opportunities.

iii. Develop and maintain good business/trade relationships with designated distributors and linked accounts.

iv. Develop annual POG and Purchase plans for individual channel partners.

v. Ensure fulfilment of marketing letter requirements..

vi. Communicate and promote BASF marketing, sales and technical programs to designated accounts and key personnel in order to drive business and achieve sales goals.

vii. Account Plan should define potential of the assigned accounts for both existing and potential customers and that establishes priority coverage for accounts and prospects through appropriate call frequency and geographic patterns.

viii. Implement the account plan in order to yield maximum sales and meet or exceed sales goals.

ix. Initiate and coordinate strategic planning sessions with designated accounts that ensure business/action plans are developed, implemented and updated on a regional basis.

x. Take an active role in assisting the National Account Manager with Linked Account Call Preparations, Call Plans and issues resolution.

xi. Communicate business issues and possible alternatives to BASF management and work with the appropriate BASF areas to implement solutions

xii. Support, cooperate and closely coordinate actions and plans with sales/marketing teams to ensure objectives align with accounts and are achieved.

Formula for Success :

Education

· Bachelor Degree in Science ( preferably Agricultural ), Business or related field, other business related experience will be considered

Experience

· Minimum of 5 years’ experience in field sales, management, marketing, business development

Knowledge/Skills

· Strong understanding of the manufacturer/distributor business relationship.

· Proven track record of success selling to distributors.

· Demonstrated success in budget management in a sales environment.

· Strong inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to develop strong, successful business relationships with customers as well as internal teammates.

· Ability to self-manage time and resources and to allocate time and energy appropriately, resulting in achievement of goals.

· Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

· Willingness to travel overnight/weekly. Minimum 30-40% overnight travel, dependent on season
