The Technical Engineering Services group provides technical and engineering solutions to the multiple production units at the BASF Hannibal site. We are seeking a professional like you to provide chemical process engineering in support of plant optimization and improvements as well as capital projects and initiatives. You will think strategically to mitigate risks, solve problems, and deliver value to BASF. You will be instrumental in developing scope for capital projects, plant modifications, and optimization initiatives to existing production units. In this role, you will engage in capital projects through the project lifecycle. You will also be responsible for driving process safety excellence and supporting operating units with continuous improvement activities and troubleshooting.

As a Process Engineer, you create chemistry by...

  • Providing process improvements and participating in plant start-up, process troubleshooting, and optimization related to improve efficiency, capability, and safety. Interface with operations to provide technical support and recommendations on methods and improvements to eliminate problems.

  • Developing basic and detailed design for capital projects as well as additions or modifications to existing facilities.

  • Interfacing with the design disciplines and engineering contractors to facilitate the completion of engineering tasks.

  • Reviewing work performed by outside contractor process engineers.

  • Preparing PFD's (Process Flow Diagrams), P&ID's (Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams) and process specifications for equipment and instruments. Identify process steps, associated equipment, instrumentation and safety valve requirements.

  • Preparing documentation for and participating in Project and Site Safety Review such as HAZOP studies.

  • Developing process optimization studies, process simulations, material and energy balance analysis.

If you...

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

  • Have 2 or more years of related experience (co-op, apprenticeship, internship, etc. also qualify)

  • Have strong knowledge of engineering principles, methodologies, and best practices.

  • Have an interest and capability in learning state of the art computerized engineering tools.

  • Have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data and draw meaningful insights.

  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Have the ability to digest regulatory standards (e.g., ISO, OSHA, EPA) and apply them in a chemical manufacturing environment.

  • Are able to apply process engineering concepts such as design piping systems, calculate pressure relief valve sizes, complete material and energy balances, and perform process optimization studies.

  • Have the ability to travel up to 5% domestically.
