Where the Chemistry Happens…

The purpose of this position is to design and manage the HPC scientific computing environment and provide operational support for R&D IT projects at BASF Agricultural Solutions. The selected candidate will:

  • Design, implement and maintain HPC platform systems for research scientific computing in line with the business and R&D IT strategy

  • Ability to translate user requirements to strategic platform architecture; recommend novel solutions to scientific community

  • Recommend and build justification for continued investment in next-generation compute technologies that will meet scientific demands

  • Maintain the scientific software environment and provide support to data scientists

  • Act as point of contact for data scientists using the scientific computing platform

  • Participates in proof of concept research projects and installation/assessment/testing of new solutions

  • Deploy, support and troubleshoot day-today operational issues

  • Actively collaborate with BASF technologists in developing standards and technical approaches for HPC

  • Develop and maintain documentation

Formula for Success: You Will…


  • Master degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, or related field highly preferred

  • PhD in a scientific field preferred

  • Will substitute years’ experience in lieu of advanced degree


  • Demonstrated knowledge in high-performance / scientific computing environments

  • Experience with configuration management environments (Puppet, GIT and related tools)

  • Experience with bioinformatics tools and data analysis

  • IT Project Management and Agile development methodology experience required

  • Experience with data visualization tools is a plus

  • Deploying advanced algorithm and automation capabilities (e.g. AI, Machine Learning, etc)

  • Familiarity with cloud computing and data analytics is desirable

  • At least five years of relevant industry experience


  • Project management skills including knowledge of, or training in PMO practices

  • Ability to communicate well with key users, developers, and scientific researchers

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Functional competencies needed include: analytical thinking, interpersonal skills, negotiation skills, problem solving, functional analysis and documentation

  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment with global teams

  • Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively with complex and competing priorities

  • Experience in Word, Excel, Visio. Project, PowerPoint and PowerBI
