BASF Corporation seeks a Breeding Technical Specialist (Morrisville, NC): Coordinate the collaborations across different organizations in providing IT solutions that will enhance the productivity of breeding operations and enrich the quality of generated research data. Bridge the communication gap between plant breeders and software developers and guide the development of integrated plant breeding applications. Organize stakeholders and subject matter experts into project teams, create project plans, and manage the execution of these plans towards completion. Provide and maintain a comprehensive solution for managing germplasm and experiments, generating experimental designs and labels, and tracking pedigree and inventory through the various stages of the breeding program while ensuring compliance with international traceability requirements. Provide and maintain a mobile data collection solution that will increase the efficiency of note taking and ensure the integrity of trait observations collected in the fields, greenhouses, and labs. Provide and maintain integrated query services and dynamic data visualization tools for data analysis, quality control, and report generation to help breeders and managers in making critical decisions. Conduct knowledge transfer effectively through documentations, presentations, and trainings with audiences in various levels of the organization. Up to 10% of domestic and international travel required.


Requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics or closely related fields and 10 years of experience managing data related to breeding and plant-based experiment design for field crops. Requires 10 years of experience in: C , JavaScript, HTML/CSS, R, Visual Basic, mobile development frameworks, and SQL databases; discussing breeding concepts and workflows with plant breeders and translating these into user interfaces and algorithms for software developers; designing and developing applications for germplasm management, seed inventory, trial designs, genotyping, phenotyping, and dynamic data visualizations, including mobile apps to guide the development of an integrated plant breeding solution; interdepartmental project management; and conducting knowledge transfer across organizations. Up to 10% of domestic and international travel required.
