Where the Chemistry Happens:
Develops new products, product modifications and test procedures for the evaluation of these products. Interfaces with Sales, Marketing and Manufacturing to introduce new products, and solve customers’ technical problems. Recommends appropriate products for customers’ operations, provides technical consultation/advice to the Field Sales force and Field Application Engineers.
Formula for Success:
Product Development
Develop project plan in conjunction with Technical Manager
Formulate new products
Develop new testing procedures
Modify standard products for improved performance
Participate in field testing of new products
Devise manufacturing procedures and process
Write specifications for raw materials and products
Assist in technology transfer from other companies or divisions
Technical Support/Technical Service
Run laboratory evaluation of customers’ jobs
Select and recommend appropriate products for customers’ applications
Develop optimum operating parameters for Chemetall/BASF products
Provide technical support to the sales force, field engineers and customers
Provide troubleshooting assistance in the field (in customers’ plant)
Write or provide technical information for Profiles, Process Instructions and other technical literature
Provide technical support for manufacturing
Professional Development
Continuously upgrade technical skills by working in the laboratories and consulting with other technical personnel, staying abreast of technical developments in the field, reading technical journals and learning new methods of analysis
Work with Chemetall/BASF’s Equipment Engineering group as required to better understand dispensing and control equipment
Attend industry seminars and in-house seminars to keep current with new technologies
Polish written and verbal communication skills
Improve computer skills
Search and evaluate new patents
Interact with vendor representatives for new information on raw materials
Laboratory Support
Insure work area is maintained in a safe manner
Maintain laboratory equipment in peak operating condition in accordance with Chemetall/BASF quality system
Check inventory level sufficiency of supplies
All activities and functions to be in compliance with Chemetall/BASF Quality Systems and Procedures
Includes sitting, walking, standing, alternate sit/stand and viewing monitor, simple grasping frequently, power grasping, and fine manipulation with hands, pushing and pulling with hands, reaching above shoulder level, and lifting and carrying up to 20lbs., and occasional lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs
Work Environment includes exposure to or working with Chemicals/Solvents frequently daily including a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse; moderate noise; moderate temperature; Required to wear goggles
Position requires continuous ability to make decisions
Ingredients for Success:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering
<5 years of industrial experience
Previous formulating experience
Knowledge or background in water soluble polymers or water treatment preferred
