Process Control Specialist – Quincy, FL

We Make Chemistry

This position will report to the Process Technology Manager and will be responsible for automation roadmap (strategy) development for the entire Quincy site and automation security oversight for the Quincy site.

Formula for Success:

In this role you will:

  • Manage all PLC and HMI changes, keeping a log for all changes and ensuring MOC’s, risk assessments, training, procedure development, etc. are created for these changes

  • Manage DCS system migration/lifecycle development

  • Manage day to day responsibility for the cyber security and complete the required courses to meet BASF’s standards for Officer of Automation Security

  • Manage all networks (IDMZ, Maintenance Segments, DCS Servers and Workstations)

  • Lead process improvements associated regulatory control deficiencies or operating target shortfalls, and automation systems networking. This includes redesign of control strategies, loop tuning, and controller monitoring.

  • Manage all contractors used to support programming work.

  • Using your controls systems experience you will lead the effort in developing an evergreen automation roadmap which will include DCS lifecycle development, System reliability studies, threat assessments, and production efficiency improvements.

  • Support Quincy site control system technicians (I-techs, Process Engineers, TES Group, etc.) on complex regulatory control troubleshooting.

  • Mentor and provide I-techs and electricians leadership for control systems

  • Using your Cyber Security experience, you will be responsible for review/approval of firewall request, antivirus updating, and System patching.

  • Management of the Quincy site remote access accounts and support for DCS software backups.

  • Perform controller mode & tuning evaluations to optimize process control

  • Maintain all Microsoft Access databases used to ensure regulatory compliance (MSHA workplace exams, FL DEP Permit Compliance for Air and Water)

  • Maintain all Microsoft Access databases used for Operational management (data highway reporting)

  • Worth Project Managers or Project Engineers for all site capital work requiring electrical or programming support

  • Ensure all critical measurement systems such as EHS monitoring devices (flow meters, opacity meters, DP transmitters, etc.) and process measurement device (scale belts, flow meters, impact meters, etc.) done correctly and on time to help maintain all regulatory compliance

  • Help recommend new technologies to upgrade and improve overall process performance

  • Participate on the NATN and Process Control Peer Working Group.

  • Understand all BASF electrical safety regulation and help the site achieve full compliance

  • Evaluate industrial networking proposals for automation security gaps.

  • Maintain a high level of network performance, using key diagnostic tools.

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering and minimum of 10 years of Controls

  • System configuration experience in a mineral processing / mining or petrochemical automation environment

  • Demonstrated work experience in control systems migrations

  • Experience configuring and monitoring network switches

  • Broad based, hands on knowledge and experience with various types of

  • DCS and PLC equipment and software.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.


  • Demonstrated experience leading automation Initiatives controls system network administration experience

  • Solid working knowledge of networking and security of automation systems

  • DCS networking, and database management experience

  • Experience optimizing control loop performance

  • SAP/R3 knowledge

  • Analyzing data using tools and submitting reports to include recommendations.

  • Experience managing others, including indirect reports like electricians, mechanics, instrument technicians, and contractors

  • Experience managing cross functional teams or work groups

  • Experience managing small to medium size capital projects and familiarity with BASF’s capital project process

  • Experience implementing OSiPi or Aspentech Suite

  • Ability write job aids or SOP’s for a non-technical and technical audience

  • Experience with MSHA and FL DEP inspection agencies
