Programming and Automation Technologist (2202344) – Regina, SK

Where the Chemistry Happens…

In this role, you will support the automation, robotic, and control system programming at our Regina, SK Canada facility. Your main responsibility will be to deliver and maintain Control Systems that meet Production’s requirements and perform as necessary to achieve functionality/safety obligations as well as maximize system capability. This includes assistance with the system migration and lifecycle process, maintenance recommendation and oversight of installed base equipment, and development/troubleshooting of control logic.

This is an excellent opportunity for you to demonstrate your experience in the engineering, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of one or more of the following: field instrumentation, process analyzers, process control systems and/or electrical power distribution equipment. You will also share your working knowledge of chemical plant equipment and technologies, your ability to read and update electrical and instrument documents such as schematics, specifications, P&IDs and one-line diagrams, and extensive computer skills.

Formula for Success: You Will…

  • Complete a ‘top-down’ review of site automation programming to identify bugs and propose opportunities for improvement.

  • Support the site on its digitalization and automation initiatives.

  • Execute numerous small and medium sized programming and automation enhancements.

  • Update and maintain site OT network drawings.

  • Support (or complete) programming scope for site projects. This could either involve acting as owner’s representative on projects to ensure alignment with overall site programing philosophies or planning and completing the programing scope of work.

  • Support the site Officer of Automation Security on Automation security tasks and action items.

  • Integrate new PLCs (supplied with any new equipment) with the existing network and/or server and stablish communication with existing PLCs or controllers (If it is required) in coordination with the new equipment providers.

  • Establish communication (read/write) between new smart electrical equipment and existing PLC.

  • Evaluate and Diagnose the Main PLC’s processor performance as well as the quantity of spare I/O’s at the beginning of this contract and after the addition of new I/O signals or modifications in the PLC program.

  • Generate the documentation required (Logic Diagrams or Ladder Logics) for review and approval before a major change in the programing is implemented or an additional program is added.

  • Be a on-call resource in the event of maintenance breakdowns requiring programing or automation support.


Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…

  • Education in Computer/Instrument Engineering, or technologist diploma, electronics and extensive experience in plant automation and control system support.

  • Demonstrating your experience in Controls and Automation and familiarity you have with various control systems, you will be responsible for configuration, preventative maintenance, hardware/software support, and administration for DCS and PLC based control systems.

  • Your strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail will be essential as you monitor failures, assist in initial hardware installations, maintain contract tracking and communication, optimize software version upgrades and address vendor liaison issues such as quick fixes for system problems.

  • As a subject matter expert, you will perform advanced control and graphic configuration on control systems. Additionally, you will support capital projects in areas requiring interface to control systems.

  • Your strong desire for safety and reliability will drive you to participate in alarm management efforts, graphical design enhancements, and improving automation security.
