R&D Digital Biology and Cropping Systems Research Associate (2101597) – Research Triangle Park, NC
Where the Chemistry Happens
This R&D Associate role in NA will report to AP (Agricultural Products) Digital and Cropping Systems Biology Head and contribute toward BASF-AP vision for digital transformation and cropping systems agriculture to realize new levels of efficiency, effectiveness, sustainability, and carbon neutral farming. Assists and generates technical data for evaluation and delivery of prototypes for digital agriculture projects with business value and sustainability footprint via fast and effective experimentation.
Responsible for execution of R&D Biology small scale exploratory work needed to support novel concepts for current and future customer centric digital cropping system solutions done in collaboration with Marketing and Technical Services teams.
Support development of good agricultural practices for using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) for BASF liquid and solid chemicals applications, scouting, and see and spray technologies in collaboration with Xarvio/Bosch, Global Digital Technology, Precision Application and Agronomy functions.
Assist with Global Precision Application/Agronomy research efforts in US and Canada.
Support day to day Greenhouse operations of APN crop digital R&D center and develop datasets which in turn will lead to optimized field testing and or on farm piloting early stage digital tools and cropping system concepts.
Ensure all digital R&D experimental/evaluation data is properly captured and analyzed.
Support APN Digital and Cropping Systems Biology Head in operations management of NA APN field research farms and testing sites and for building infrastructure needed for deployment of digital R&D agricultural cropping systems field trialing.
Formula for Success
M.S. or B.S. with 5 years of relevant work experience or Agriculture Sciences or applied Data Science or Digital Agronomy.
Preferred field of study in Biological Sciences, Crop Science, Agronomy, Agriculture Business, or related fields
Knowledge of best management practices for crop, soil, and pest management and other sustainable agricultural practices.
Knowledge of crop protection research processes/techniques, agronomic and plant protection practices.
Strong analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
Working knowledge of computers and software, specifically MS Office, necessary for communication, data collection / analysis, and knowledge sharing.
Domestic and international travel for this role is expected to be at least 5-10%.
Prior experience in precision agriculture, data analytics.
Strong knowledge of agriculture equipment, farming operations and agricultural challenges.
Ability to acquire a UAV license for operating drones.
