Fermentation Scientist (2200142)- San Diego

Where the Chemistry Happens

We are seeking a professional like you to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for high throughput expression screening, microbial physiology characterization and fermentation process development for our enzyme development pipelines. You will drive early phase process development for enzyme screen and expression. You will collaborate with several other scientific teams in molecular biology, enzyme engineering, biochemistry, HTP screening, analytical, process development and scale-up to achieve project goals. You will also have the opportunity to work in a global multidisciplinary team in a challenging and dynamic environment.

Formula for Success

  • Your strong understanding of fermentation technology and microbial physiology, experience in plate based high throughput fermentation development will serve you well in developing and optimizing various fermentation processes with bacteria, yeasts and fungi at laboratory scales and ensuring the transferability of the process across scales.

  • Your hands on experience with bench-scale fermentation and or plate-based high throughput cultivation methods, deep knowledge of bioprocess engineering principles and familiarity with fermentation systems across different scales (plates, miniaturized fermenters, bench top fermenters and large-scale manufacturing) will allow you to plan, design and execute fermentation experiments effectively and analyze and communicate results across various functional and project teams.

  • Leveraging your excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills, you will collaborate closely with members of process development, strain development, biochemistry and analytical teams to ensure the development of a robust high throughput screening fermentation platform.

  • Demonstrating your strong data analysis and problem-solving skills, you will analyze, interpret, and report large data sets generated in fermentation using various data analysis tools and integrate fermentation process control and data collection into the global digitalization efforts. Your experience in design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis will be a strong plus.

  • Utilizing your fermentation expertise and experience, you will maintain up to date information with scientific theories and principles and continuously develop skill sets for new technologies and methods in the fields of fermentation and bioprocessing. You will actively participate in project and technical meetings to critically evaluate projects, as well as in cross functional teams and product development teams with business units .

  • Your affinity to lab work and your superior attention to details and organization skills will serve you well as you prepare and follow SOPs and safety protocols to execute experiments and maintain laboratory documentation in accordance to required scientific, regulatory, and intellectual property requirements

  • Your experience in fermentation digitalization and automation, knowledge in protein biochemistry and basic molecular biology principles and strong mechanical orientation will also serve you well in this role.
